Yesterday I got my female and male rabbit Spayed/Neutered and now my Female is in Stasis from the stress of the surgery. I almost wasn’t able to take them to be spayed/neutered an I don’t have enough money for a vet. I’ve been giving her Critical Care, Infant Gas Drops, and Pineapple Juice. She’s been drinking lots of water and she’s pooped a few little normal size poops and she’s only peed like 3 times. I really love Little Peanut she’s my baby I don’t want to lose her I’m trying my hardest to keep her alive but I’m not a Vet. Should I replace Sub-Q Fluids with Unflavored Pedialyte? Would that work the same? Please someone has anyone treated GI-Stasis alone at home? Did your rabbit live? I need some hope.

Did they send her home with pain meds? If not, she really needs to be on them. Females can easily develop stasis from a spay if they aren’t given pain meds because its a very invasive procedure. If she doesn’t eat or poop normally for 12-24 hours, she really does need to see a vet. They’ll be able to administer pain meds, give her a motility drug, sub-q fluids, and just overall check her incision site over for any small signs of infection as well.

A lot of vets will offer a payment plan or care credit if you can’t afford a visit. But honestly, if gas drops aren’t working a whole ton, yes a vet visit is necessary.

            Hi
It’s good to give her critical care, keep doing this ! I’ve never heard of giving a rabbit infant gas drops or pineapple juice? I’d advise not giving just Incase it makes things worst (I’ve never tried it so I wouldn’t know). But the best thing you can do is give tons of a HAY!!!!! That’s the best way to treat GI status at home. Feed the critical care 3-4 times a day and give lots of hay. I wouldn’t give anything else. It’s good that yr bun is pooping this is a very good sign. Give some regular pellets as well with the critical care spread on top to stimulate eating. If you bun allows it you could even try messaging the belly to help stimulate the gut to move again.

Hope this helps xox (I’ve had tons of experience with GI status and successfully treated it)

Gas drops are fine to give but if they’re not effective after the first few doses, they’re not likely to work.

She could be in pain. Did you get pain meds for her? (And your boy too?)

Both her and Thumper are on Metacam.

If the gas drops aren’t working and they’re on pain meds, she needs motility drugs to get things moving again.

Oh sorry read it wrong! I read it as a male bun! If it’s a female bun then yes I’d definately get pain meds as females take longer to recover. If you have any of the meds left use those. As its internal surgery for females you have the risk of internal infection. Which can be very serious. I’ve never actually had to do post care for a spay bun (mine were already spayed ironically) but I’d suggest to have a soft bed and rinse the stitched area 2-3 times a day with a saline rinse and then maybe add some sudocreme to the area to help it heal. That’s what I did for my buns when they got neutered. GI status care is in my previous post

                      Hope I helped xox

It actually doesn’t too much like GI-stasis if she is peeing and pooping — that’s gut movement — the poop especially is a positive sign. At this moment, is she still pooping?

Is she eating willingly yet? Either way, continue to offer veggies, the freshest hay, and pellets Metacam can make rabbits sleepy, so keep that in mind as your reading her behavior.

She’s getting better! She started eating! Like a lot she ate as much Cilantro as she could and had a table spoon of pellets. I only gave her a small amount because I want keep her hydrated with fresh greens and pellets are dry so they shouldn’t be fed a lot when a rabbit is like this. SHE POOPED! I mean she was pooping before but only a little bit every couple hours, I was in her X-Pen and she jumped in her box and started eating hay then all of a sudden she jummped out and there was poop! Lots of it! Now she’s back to her old self except she’s not running around a whole lot because of her spay. I really thought I was gonna lose her but I guess she wanted to stay with me and she fought! Thank you for your concerns!

i got my baby spayed about a month ago and the same thing happened to her. i was very upset because she has been diagnosed with gi-stasis before in october and we didn’t think she would make it she recovered and we got her spayed, she wasn’t eating at all and barely pooping. i was really freaked out but people reassured me she was okay. i had to go to school the next day and my mom stayed with her all day trying to make her eat. after a day or 2 she would eat without any help. she healed pretty quickly and is doing so so good now. i hope this helped !
