I just watched Peppy and Milo roll their treat jar around on the ground for a good 30 minutes trying to get at the treats inside…I’m thinking they would enjoy one of those cat treat dispensers to play with.  I looked on Amazon, but there’s a huge selection…anybody have any favorites?  I thought that it might even be a good idea to give them meals in the ball, so that they don’t scarf it down like the little piggies that they usually are.  My main concern is for the holes on the treat dispenser  to work with small irregularly-shaped treats or Oxbow pellets.  Do you have a toy like this?  How do you like it/which one do you have?

its more fun to hold their treat in your loosely closed fist, then watch them stand up on their hind legs while trying to pry apart your fingers to get at it.

Haha, I definitely do that too. The problem is when Peppy gets the idea that her teeth would be a better tool to do the trick…ouch. Plus, it’d be nice to have something for the buns to amuse themselves when I’m busy.

These are great!  They are hard plastic and have an adjustable opening. Though this carrot one is cute, I’m not sure how easy it’d be to find.  I have a dog version of this (blue with paw prints) and it works just the same. Actually, the paw prints are raised so it stops the ball from slipping away too fast.

That looks pretty neat, JG! Do you know what brand it is? Most of the dispensers I’ve seen have round holes of variable size that are designed for doggy or kitty kibbles, but that one looks like it would work for bunny food quite well.

I’d originally saved that image from Drs Foster & Smith site but looks like they don’t carry it now. A quick image search tells me the brand is Vo Toys. Also has V.I.P (Very Important Pets) at top of the packaging. It’s called Small Animal Treat Ball. I’m not seeing it on that companies website either. Sorry!

Edit: Ok, found this one. The carrots are raised which is a bonus IMO

I bought the MultiVet SlimCat Interactive Toy and Food Dispenser.  I’ve only had it a few days but so far so good. All the pellet pieces, regardless of size will eventually come out when adjusted to a small hole size.

I have the MultiVet slim cat as well, and it works great (and was under $10!). I also bought a harder one (OurPets IQ Ball), which requires the treats to come out of two holes instead of just one. I like both of them, and so does Riley. Both have worked fine for me with Oxbow pellets and odd shaped treats. Some of my APD treats I have to break in half so they will fit out the whole.

Hope that helps – I can try to get pictures later today!

Oh yay, I’m glad to see that people like the MultiVet SlimCat..I considered buying it since it is fairly inexpensive on Amazon and comes with Prime shipping too! Hmmm tempting. Thanks!

Believe it or not, we bought a few cat/dog treat dispensers from our local Dollarama (Dollar Store) for $1.25 each. there are multiple colours and are made by Hertz, just sold at the dollar store. Being so cheap, I just take them away once they start chewing bits off. These are good for supervised play, but likely would not want to use them when you are not home.

I love the one Jersey posted and have been coveting it, but I’ve never been able to find it in a store and to order it would be like $7 shipping for a $2 item. When I finally ordrered more hay from Drs F&S, they didn’t carry it anymore.

I have some super cheap-o cat ones that I got at the pet store – they say “Go Cat Go” on them or something and are purple and green. They’re just hollow plastic balls with a hole. Large pellets don’t fall out immediately and it’s a decent size for dried fruit. It’s not adjustable so the small stuff falls right out, but the bunnies like it when it’s easy anyway.

I also have a Teach ‘n’ Treat that they looove. It doesn’t move around, but it offers lots of ways to hide treats.

In my house they’re not good toys to keep the bunnies occupied – within 15sec somebody has pushed their ball under the coffee table or tv, and then they just stare at me until I get it back (or try to steal a treat ball from the other bunny).
