So this summer there is going to be a lot of moving around and change in general for Lemony… There is a trip that we are going to have to take from Chicago to Philadelphia with him, and then back a few weeks later.  Drive, right?  I can’t imagine Lems sitting in his carrier under someone’s seat for two hours.  And I heard ONLY 2 airlines allow bunnies in-cabin.  But in an emergency, has anyone here flown with their buns?  Was it absolutely terrible / never to be recommended, or was it not great, but ok for situations when flying is the only option.  (There is no one here that we trust to leave Lemony with for that long, and we really don’t want to board him, as we don’t trust the boarders either).

I would say to drive. That is not a very long distance to drive. If you were going to fly him I would not advise putting them under them plane. They cannot regulate their body temperature by panting like cats/dogs. If you were going to fly though you would need to have him in-cabin with somebody. I have only heard of one airline allows rabbits in the cabin.

I am planning a move in the distant future and we plan on driving from California towards the east coast with the trio.

Thanks for the help, Mrmac. We would absolutely never put Lems under the plane with the cargo. We don’t put my cello down there, let alone a living thing. Out of curiosity, do you know which airline it is that allows rabbits in-cabin? And I know this is prettily ridiculous, but hypothetically speaking, in an absolute emergency, do you think I could get him on if I bought him his own seat?

These previous discussions may also be helpful (one is from 3 years ago, but still good info!)

Thanks soooo much BinkyBunny all three discussions were extremely helpful to us in discussing what would be the best way to travel. It’s a 12 hour drive, so if his “first” cage fits in it, then we will use that. I want him to be able to stretch out, so putting him in an carrier just doesn’t sound so good. We are bringing the xpen for when we get to our destination.

Thank goodness we don’t have kids, that’s all I can say.

Also, lots and lots of great tips in those threads that I never would have thought of.

Definitely I’d drive-I prefer driving to flying no matter what (I get to decide when I pee or drink and eat and stop, no customs and the bathrooms are much bigger lol)-I abhor flying though But I wouldn’t fly any pets unless I could have them in the cabin and then still-yeah I’d drive

I just have to add: My friend decided to drive from Wash. DC to Western MA. I said “why are you driving and not flying? 2 days vs. 2 hours?”
She pointed out that, by the time she got through the roads to the airport, left enough time to get through security, boarded, waited for take off, got her luggage, rented a car and drove from the airport to her destination, that 2 hours was a full day.

She’d rather enjoy the scenery on the ground.

                        So will Lemony.

My guys drive with me on a weekly base, in fact i think i am lucky, Bugz never had an issue with driving and as long as he is with Anya she is really relaxed about it as well (by her self she stresses out BIG time!)

In fact I got to my destination (a 3 hours drive) and Bugz came out of the carrier caged, flopped and went back to sleep while Anya binky bummed all around the room I was in. I don’t think driving is as stressful as alot of people think it is. Hqaving said that, last time I was in the states I sat next to a lady from LA who was flying to NY and did this on a regular base with her Bunny in a carry bag and he never had any issue with it and was relaxed the whole time. The only thing to worry about is clean food.
