Does anyone else have bunnies that travel well….just visits for a few hours at a time?? We often bring Oliver to my friends house (her house is more bunny proof than mine ) However, I am starting to think that we shouldn’t. I have tried bringing his litter box….I have tried bringing his litter box with hay in it……BUT, he refuses to use it. He holds it the entire time.  Then when we get home, he UNLOADS!  I am worried that this will cause a slow down of his digestive system…..does it work like that???

If it is just for a few hours it should not be an issue.  Have you tried putting some soiled litter in the box so he really understands what it is for and that it is his litterbox and is OK to use?

I actually take the litterbox out of his cage and put it in a bag, then set it out at my friends house as is. When we get home, it goes right back in his cage, and he uses it right away. :o/
When we are gone for a length of time (for the weekend or longer) Oliver always goes to her house. Next time, it will be interesting to see how long he goes before he finally realizes he is not going home.

I think he’ll be fine, as long as you bring the bit of soiled litter to identify that it’s his litter pan. You may not have noticed, but a bunny will often go for hours throughout the day (especially since that is a favorite deep nap time) without needing to use the litter pan. As long as he knows it’s there, and his, he will eventually use it if he has to. If for any reason he decides to pee outside of it, immediately wipe it with a paper towel and put that into the litter pan. Then wash the spot with water and vinegar, so he smells his pee in the pan and doesn’t go back to the accident spot.

Otto travels very well – he’s relaxed in his carrier and when we get to a new place he hops right out and starts exploring. He still doesn’t eat while traveling (which is fine) and usually doesn’t pee either. At home he’ll hold it for 12 hours at a time even when he has access to a litter box, so I don’t think that’s a problem.
