Anyone have any toy ideas? Heffie doesn’t really play with any of the toys we’ve given him. He played with the multi-colored wood ball from PetCo a few times but he pretty much ignores it now. He doesn’t really pay attention to apple branches or pinecones. He ignores the stuffed bunny we got him. Occasionally he will fling his food bowl around so we tried some bird rings for him to fling and he ignored those too. I’m running out of ideas!

He does have a small beach type of ball that he occasionally likes to push around and he loves to dig and bite at his bed (that he never sleeps in!). He also seems to like to climb and we’ve built him a new bunny condo that he will move into this weekend that has 3 levels.

What do your buns like to play with?

My Huckleberry doesn’t play either. She has two toys she enjoys, a hard plastic key ring and a wooden box that has a metal rod stuck in a hole. it wasn’t really intended for her, but she found it and really enjoyed yanking the rod out of the block of wood. I stick it back in there and she yanks it out. I think a lot of bigger buns dont really “play” as much as smaller ones. She doesn’t like her stuffed bun either. She loves to climb though, so that cage might be the trick for yours. I gave mine a pillow that she digs and smoothes out all the time.
I bought a small basket of sticks from the BB store and she was very interested in chewing the handle off the basket! Maybe just some things your bun can chew on. Huckleberry won’t chew on anything from a pet store I have noticed. Darn bunnies and their picky tastes!

Smudge and Moose both love their towels for digging in and tugging at. It’s quite funny watching them play with them

It’s a little comforting to know that Heff isn’t the only one! He’s a teenager at close to 9 months, but I worry a little that he doesn’t play much. He loves destroying boxes and he has several of those to remodel, so maybe that’s just his way of playing too? We also have a towel that he likes to move out of it’s particular corner and bunch up. He hates flat towels. 🙂

Try toys with treats, like a rolling ball with some chopped up papaya and pellets. Franz only plays with toys like that.

I agree with cactuspancake, toys with treats are a huge hit here! Oreo especially loves the egg carton toy that I found here on BB. I put hay and mint and break up a few banana chips inside it and she goes bonkers trying to get to the treats!

She also enjoys anything that she can knock over, like the little trash can in her room. She gets a disturbing about of amusement from knocking it over and watching me pick it up again

Have you tried an old phone book? Leopold LOVES his phone book. The more noise he can make ripping the pages, the more fun he seems to have.

I love all these ideas! If I have a banana chip for Heff, he thinks I’m pretty much the greatest thing ever for as long as it takes for him to snatch it out of my hand, and then I become te Evil Banana Chip Stealer! He’d probably like treat toys. He doesn’t really like hay so I don’t know if he’d go crazy for a hay toy, but then again, maybe he’d eat more?

We have some packing paper that looks like unprinted newspaper that he does like to destroy, but I’ve never tried a phone book.

The more I think about it with all of your suggestions, I guess he does play more than I think he dies, he’s just the kid that would rather play with the wrapping paper than the expensive toy! That, and he seems to enjoy his loafing…typical teenager!! 🙂

Have you tried willow toys? Those are a favorite of most bunnies, and they are edible too.

Hemi doesn’t seems to like to play with any of the toys I give him either. The little bugger just likes his toilet paper rolls, his hay ball and his apple wood sticks. I got him a grass cave though from the pet store and he LOVES it. He’s a tiny little lionhead mix and manages to throw it all around his cage, flip it over, crawl inside of it, and whatever else he can figure out what to do with it. Plus its edible so it’s something they can chew on. It’s plenty big enough for him to fit into it and turn around completely so i’m sure it would be big enough for a holland lop.

Beka, I haven’t tried the willow toys. I will have to order one from the store on this site and see what Heff thinks!

I have a grass cave for Heff too. He loved it for about a week, ignored it, then went crazy trying to pull it apart right after his neuter surgery, and now ignores it again. Silly bunnies.

Put some hay in the willow basket.. and it doubles as a hay rack and toy hehe!
Willow balls are nice! I ordered a willow ball from the store and I was SHOCKED at how HUGE it is!

Mine almost never play with actual toys – they much prefer things they can rip up like phonebooks and cardboard boxes.
