Hi,
So Thursday Charlie went to vet for sneezing. We decided to try benedryl and to call if we see thick discharge then we would start Baytril. Started benedryl and yesterday was good. This morning she is sneezing quite a bit, rough sneezing and even seemed to gag once. Otherwise she is playing, running around and being mischievous.
I called our vet to ask about starting the Baytril as I’m not happy with how she is sounding. She wipes her face so fast I can’t see the discharge. He wasn’t in, but his office called him. I am going to pick up Baytril this morning. We’ve been down this road before and she was on Baytril for 9-10 months long term before. We have been sneeze free close to a year.
I had a large bunch of flowers in the house, plus my husband was cutting pine wood outside this past week and know pine wood pellets irritated her for litter, so stopped using that long ago. My first thoughts were allergy.
Anyway, when vets office called back, they said doctor was confused because he had called and left me a lengthy message after our visit on Thursday. She said he wanted to start the Baytril then and that he has called and talked to a specialist somewhere who said we may be dealing with syphilis. I am to pick up the Baytril today and call him Wednesday. If she’s not better in two weeks then switch medication and possibly treat for syphilis.
I was totally confused and so was the vet and his office. I never got the call and some of the notes didn’t match up. It said I called him with an update, but we were there on Thursday. Then she corrected herself and said yes you were here. Then she said the record said sneezed like three times and just some things that didn’t sound right.
They are going to have him call me on day morning to clear things up. I think she needs the Baytril so that’s not s problem.
The whole conversation is totally confusing. Plus I thought syphilis presented lesions and sores which she’s never had. Just the sneezing. Is it possible she has syphilis without and lesions?
Her sneezing started when she was 10 weeks old. We treated almost 10 months, cleared up and have gone about a year sneeze feee until now.
