Any ideas for a top for an xpen?  I would feel better knowing there was no possible way that my bunny could jump over it! She’s a little jumper…

There is actually a top you can buy for the xpen. It’s called  Wire Mesh Top Model: 540-WM.  Just do a google search with that info and I’m sure you find many places to buy it from. You could also check out your local petstore too, of course.

You can also get a white sheet (to allow light), cut it to fit  or if you sew, you can create clean edges and use clips to secure.

ditto BinkyBUnny on a clipping a sheet to the top. i really like the xpen tops you can purchase… but i could see that being more useful if you were trying to keep someone out (cat/dog that could just tear off a sheet) rather than keeping bunny in. has the bunny jumped the xpen? what height did you get?

Well, I was getting the top for precautionary measures but the little angel jumped out last night! It is way too short though…I’m not sure if it’s even 3 feet. I need to measure. They gave it to me when I adopted her and told me she wouldn’t jump out but I was a little skeptical. I’m thinking of building a NIC condo. I can’t decide if it’s better to get a top for the xpen or build the condo. Thanks for the help!

Try the white sheet first and see how that works. Just take a white sheet and use clothes pins to hold it.

i’d def. continue to use the xpen since you have it already. if you wanted something with some extra secuirty you could also create a flat top out of nic grids.

my girl is a jumper, and i ended up buying a 48inch xpen, it was about $10 more than the smaller ones, I think I paid 65 for it on ebay.

The smaller one I took apart and I use it to block off wires and such so it can still be useful (:

I also use a sheet and clothespins for the top of the ex-pen; it seems to be the most economical solution.

Beka- how high are your X-pens that you bought?  I love my NIC grids and have made pens, blocked stairs, etc- but I am thinking about going the xpen route for a permanent cage structure once I have a bonded pair- and that looks like it will be Cotton and the new guy (“Edward”- still needs a new name).

i have the 36 inch tall. Max and Mead are not jumpers… but i figured that 36 inch is probably the shortest i should go. the next up (and highest is 42 inches). i think the shorter one is 30 in… which is only 2 inches higher than a double high nic grid… i also considered that even tho my current rabbits (lol) are not jumpers, that does not mean my *future* buns won’tbe jumpers… so i was thinking more long-term.

i have the midwest brand from petsmart.  they are WALKTHROUGH gates!  this makes it much easier for cleaning, feeding, etc…

i adore my xpens. but you know this… ;o)

I’ve been eying that metal cover for a while now, but I’m just too darn cheap to actually buy it. I have the 24in tall xpens (I also have a couple 42in). which I use when I have Nova out on the front lawn, because they’re lightweight. I typically put the pen in a rectangle and pin on towels (about 3). I can never leave her alone like that for more than a few minutes though because I’m afraid that the towel will somehow disappear and a hawk will get her. Some day I will get the nice metal cover, some day.

Beka, I’m jealous, we bought ours (we seriously have about 10) before they made them as walkthroughs. They only have a little gate with a bar so that only animals and leprechauns can easily walk through.

Both my little rascals live in the 24″ pens, and haven’t ever tried to jump out.

My BF’s bun lives in the 36″, and he climbs out (not jumps, but climbs!). We use binder clips (a little more grip than clothespins) to secure a sheet to the top, and that seems to do the trick..
