My bunny Toby has been breathing very heavily causing his body to kind of shake. he is a 3 week old baby. It started when i finished giving him his goat milk this morning. Since this doesnt let me attach videos (only photos) i have posted a video of his breathing on an instagram account called @tobybunny123 just for this thread and if someone can let me know if it seems like theres something wrong with his breathing that would be great! I just took him to the vet but they didnt really check his breathing as much as his heart. Let me know im a worried mama

Just putting the link to the video here:http://www.instagram.com/p/Bf10WoCjnji/?taken-by=tobybunny123

The vets are probably used to fast breathing with animals being stressed about being there. Is he moving around much? His eyes appear a little squinted – this may be normal sometimes – but I wonder if he is a bit uncomfortable with some gas pain. Do you have some infant gas meds (simethicone) on hand?
Is he starting to eat some solid foods yet?

thanks for the quick reply! he’s eating hay and some pellets. doctor gave me vitamins to put in his milk and told me to mash up pellets in it as well. His breathing has returned to normal as far as i can see. didnt notice the eye thing… they aren’t normally so squinty unless he’s tired, this vid was taken right after milk so maybe thats why? hes pooping and peeing regularly. let me know if you have any more feedback

I bought him from a breeder, I didn’t know he was too young to be seperated from his mom, the breeder didn’t tell me anything he’s been with me for the past week I’ve been taking good care

The next few weeks will be pretty crucial. Bunnies shouldn’t be weaned until 6-7 weeks. Bunnies should go home to their forever homes around 8 weeks. Make sure he is warm, as well as eating, pooping, and peeing normally. Don’t feed him any veggies until he’s at the very least 12 weeks. If he starts having diarrhea, take him to a vet asap. Baby bunnies having diarrhea can be life-threatening.

If you can, report that breeder. Those bunnies should not be leaving them until 8 weeks old. Bunnies not properly weaned can have serious medical issues.

Yeah for now I’m just feeding him goat milk and he eats hay. His poops seem normal. Sometimes they are a little bit loose, not sure if that counts as diarrhea. He’ll make normal hard round poops and then sometimes looser poops

Sounds like he’s doing better, and that’s good. I had the same thing happen to me. I didn’t know anything about bunnies at all and the stupid breeder let us take her at 3.5 weeks. When I got home she wasn’t pooping and it freaked me out and I Googled “baby bunny care” and then realized the baby was too early to be release from mom. I was livid and not about to bring it back to that crappy breeder. I brought it to the vet who gave me this high concentrated fiber green goo stuff to bottle feed her with in addition to the pellets and hay she would eat. She started pooping immediately and then began eating a little bit more of the pellets and hay and seemed normal after that. She grew up fine and is a beautiful bun.

Hoping yours will continue to eat drink and poop!!

Awww….Glad to hear he is doing well. He’s lucky to have you. Awful that a breeder could be so uneducated/heartless.
                            .
