Hi everyone my bunny is on panacur and this morning i dropped some on her fur and it didnt Make it into Her mouth so i gave her a little more to make it for the little bit that has fallen.

Now it’s 6 pm and she’s not acting her usual self. I’ve had to feed her by hand and she will take some veggies and some not and she didn’t run for her daily papaya treat.

did the panacur cause this I’m worried.

Panacur isnt toxic so a tiny bit more than her normal dose shouldn’t be a problem. The symptoms you’re seeing could perhaps be a side effect of the Panacur though. It could also have to do with the EC.

It sounds like your bun might have an upset tummy. Try to make her move around a bit, that’s the best way to get gas to move out of the intestines. You can also give some simethicone baby gas drops.

Yes, I just saw it was you, I know your bun is on Panacur for EC. But it’s of course still good to mention that in this thread, there are buns that get Panacur for worms.

She’s been doing so good though before today, it’s so nerve wracking for me.

It is nerve wracking to have a poorly bun. I hope this is just some minor upset tummy and that she’ll go back to doing well again soon. Keep a close eye on her poop, maybe clean out her litterbox so you know if she poops.

So she hasn’t pooped yet… i have some left over meloxicam (metacam) and metoclopramide. Can i give her some?

You can give the meloxicam, but hold off on the metoclopramide. Metoclopramide is contra-indicated if there is some sort of intestinal blockage, and we cant know if there is a blockage.

okay she started pooping, but her appetite is still not there yet like it has Been. This was the symptoms she was having before i took her to the vet. Is this normal for a bunny on panacur for ec? I know i have 2 weeks ish left of her medication but is it common for them to start feeling bad after they have been doing so well?

So glad she’s started to poop!

But yes, rabbits can have “relapses” while on Panacur. It is a very slow-acting drug. Some buns need 5 weeks of treatment, or even more. Some buns, albeit few, get side effects from the Panacur. Panacur is slso often combined with meloxicam for the anti-inflammatory properties of meloxicam. Are you in any kind of on-going contact with her vet?

It’s good that you can call them if you need to! You should, if she really stops eating and pooping. It is still somewhat “early days” on the Panacur though. Have you seen any improvement so far regarding her balance?

Yes! she does not loser her balance when she shakes her head anymore.

i am going back to syringe feeding her till her appetite goes back to normal. Thank you so much for your help!

Oh, wonderful that her balance has improved!

Supplemental syringe feeding is good so you know she gets the right nutrients. You can make the mix extra sloppy so you know she’s well hydrated.

I have a question about her poop, i will ask it here if that’s okay.

I am noticing that she will poop really giant poops like the ones when their gut slows down and 2 get merged together. It’s not all her poops but I’m seeing like 1 or 2 a day. Could it be the medication?

The poop irregularities could be due to her not eating like she normally would. Critical care and other rescue formulas contain fiber, but its still not the same as eating a good amount of hay every day.

I once had a bun that needed daily critical care for an extended period if time, and his poop was often weird-looking. But he did pull through, he didn’t go into stasis and his poop slowly normalized when he started eating more by himself.
