Monty’s litter tray habits have gone down the pan (excuse the pun) recently. I suspect it’s do with Bea, who we are bonding him with, although weirdly, he was fine for the first couple of weeks we had her. She had a little accident when I was playing with them on the bed one day. We washed all the sheets (luckily it didn’t go through to the mattress), but ever since, Monty has been pooping and peeing all over my bed nearly every day.

I don’t really know what to do about it, since he doesn’t have a cage any more and has free reign of my room. There’s nowhere else in the house I can put him right now, either, since I’m living with my parents at the moment. I REALLY hope it’s just territorial things to do with Bea and when they’re properly bonded it won’t happen. I also wonder if it’s to do with her maturing as she was a baby when I got her so maybe he didn’t get the same signals before hormone-wise. So hopefully it might stop when when she’s neutered? Except that she won’t be ready to be neutered for a little while yet

Anyone had any experience of this?

I would wait to bond them til she is fixed. Hormones can definitely play a part in it, she will smell stronger to Monty, and he will want to cover up that scent. They won’t be able to properly bond until she is spayed, as everything will be about making babies to her right now.

I agree with Monkey, put the bonding on hold until she is spayed and has healed up for a month. Any bonding progress you were to make right now would be for nothing since they’d have to be rebonded after the spay surgery anyway.

As far as his freedom, can he be given a pen or condo? He’ll need to be confined for the bonding process, so if you can get him used to this now, it won’t be as much of a struggle later on. And it will be easier to contain any messes.
