i don’t know specifically if it’s safe or not but it’s definitely not a great food for them.  bunnies need food that’s richer in fibre than protein and food that needs munching (like hay) is best to help keep their teeth healthy.

I’m eating lunch as I read this.

For some reason that question totally cracked me up – yea, I almost did a “spit take”.

My guess is buns would ignore the tofu.

No way.  It certainly is not a food found in the wild!

I agree, this is not a recommended food for a rabbit nor a food found naturally in a rabbit’s diet. I cannot imagine a rabbit liking this anyway.

Yeah, I don’t think tofu would be good for buns.

Thanks. I should point out that I asked because on cuteoverload I saw this photo of a little hamster nibbling to tofu. Just got me thinking.

I agree that a bunny probably would not enjoy tofu.  But one of my concerns is that soy mimics estrogen hormones, that’s why some women increase soy in their diets post menepause.  B/c rabbits are very prone to mammary tumors, I just wouldn’t think it would be a good mix.  It is believed that estrogen likely increases mammary tumors in humans & rats.  Just an additional 10 cents.

I also seen that pic of a hamster eating tofu. I’m pretty sure my rabbits would be totally p-ode if I gave them any of my tofu!!!

It is ok for hamsters, mice and rats to eat tofu, but not for rabbits. I eat tofu since I don’t eat animals, but I don’t feed it to anybody else over here except for the husband as well. He can eat that, too. : )

I have mixed fried tofu into my bunny’s food, just once. Half of his food was regular, the other half, with fried, cooled tofu. He ate the tofu mix, and left the other. I’m out of tofu presently, but will serve it up for an occasional treat. My bunny’s name is Binky. He’s a 3 1/2 yr old dark grey lionhead mix, castrated, litter box trained, and has the run of 1 1/2 rooms. He’s only caged when he takes his big nap, and when I have to leave the apt. He’s like a cat, only more fun. Sure do love the little critter. And talk about affectionate.

                                  Hi Maureen

This is a pretty old topic so I will lock it so it doesn’t cause confusion being up with current topics. As mentioned above, tofu is really not a suitable food for rabbits, even as a treat. It doesn’t take much to offset their gut balance. Herbs or forage that is rabbit safe are wonderful treats for rabbits. Many will go crazy for them. : )

So rabbits really are like cats! Or even dogs, haha. They have lots of personality and that really becomes obvious when they are house rabbits.
