So as some of you know I’m almost blind, I was trying to tie my shoelaces, I’m 41 and only managed to tie them a few years ago, its been difficult for me learning how to do this and I know its a simple thing, we all have something we can’t do and then suddenly we can.
Today I was trying to tie my my trainers, I couldn’t see very well, who came along to help? Olly, he sat there looking, had a wash and then grabbed one end of the lace, threw it over my trainer, then the other and went back to the other and so on.
Things like this really bring a smile to my face, I know he cares so much and wants to help, it just goes to show how intelligent these creatures are.
People ask me why I don’t have a guide dog, well, I don’t want one, because I have Olly, not only that, I have Arthritis in most joints, I decided after working for security I wouldn’t have my own dog, they need a lot of exercise and if I can’t go out it wouldn’t be fair on the dog, anyway, Olly tells me when someone is at the door and the phone is ringing, he brings what post he can after the Postman puts it through the door, if there are big letters he looks round the door and then at me to tell me there is more post, Pizza menus Double glazing leaflets and things like that, he has picked up my way of dealing with those, if I see them I say “Oh no.” and “Ugh” and rip them up, Olly growls, pounces on the leaflets and goes up to the door, hits it with his bottom and pounces on the leaflets and rips them into shreds, so I don’t need a dog.
