Baby Dior had a large mass on his kidney. We discovered it 2 months ago and tried to treat it with medication. Since then, it had become apparent that the only treatment would be surgery. Today, we did surgery to try to remove the kidney, as well as the tumor, but the vet was unable to proceed due to the size and location of the tumor. I    was given the option to wake him up and take him home, where I would make him comfortable, or I    could have him euthanized right then and there. I  chose to have him euthanized on the table and I feel so guilty. He had been happy before, he was eating and playing, but the doctor said he probably had a week left at the most. I keep wondering what could/ would have happened in that week I might have had. Baby Dior was my life, and now he’s gone. He didn’t even live to see his second birthday, and I feel like that’s my fault.

Bless you Megan. The guilt after any loss of our bunnies goes hand in hand with the grief we feel. Baby Dior was obviously very poorly and he fell asleep peacefully. It could have been more difficult for you had you taken him home.

          Sleep tight Baby Dior

No way is it your fault that he had kidney problem, very sad poor little thing, you made tough decision, he had wonderful owner and you had no choice, my Jasper had testicle tumor and he died under anasetic in January, felt same as you, but they didn’t die in pain which is a good thing, very sad and very hard to deal with, we feel so responsible for our bunnies and always feel we let them down, they had good life till end. X

I’m so sorry for your loss. Bunnies are very fragile and there’s only so much humans can do to try and fix them. And the vet was probably right. It’s never easy to let a baby go, you did what you could but nature had a different plan for him.

Binky free baby Dior. It was definitely not your fault. Things like this happen and he crossed over peacefully instead of painfully. Try to remember the good memories.

So sorry. Very very sad. Not fair. It never is especially when so young. They do become so much a part of your life that they seem to be your life. As is most cases with bunny owners, we are not in control. As much as we try and want to be we aren’t. So not your fault. As you stated he was your life so I’m sure he was being treated very lovingly. Again he was happy and playing. He didn’t suffer. You took him to the vet. You tried using medication. You were trying surgery as a last resort. You did everything you could. No fault should be harbored. Thank you for being such a caring and loving bunny parent. Again my condolences as well.

Aw that’s so sad such a young wee bunny. You did everything you could for baby Dior. So young to have a mass on his kidney. Both my bunnies had to be euthanised a hard decision to make but sadly sometimes it has to be done to save pain and suffering. My heart breaks for you.
