This is sunshines new cage I built her 2 weeks ago. I have since removed the jellyfish toy because most of it was chewed. I have seen peoples pictures of there NIC cube cages and I want to build sunshine a 2nd level. I was looking for some tips. My questions are

        1. the 2nd level is going to go on the left hand side and since there are three grids. I was going to make the 2nd shelf with 2 grids is that ok? and she is a 6 pound rabbit so would I have to add xtra support underneath it? If I have to add xtra support with a dawl rod  does it have to be a certain kind of wood? Does my rabbit really need a 2nd level?

The easiest way to make a shelf would be to make it 3 grids long, all the way across the side of the cage. Then zip-tie the three grids on. then on the side with out the wall it will most likely be droopy, I would put a wooden dowel under neath the shelf to support it. Hope that helps!

Mine has a second level as described and my 7 pound bunnies don’t have a problem with it. I used a wooden floor with wooden dowels to hold it up. I chose a wooden floor because NIC cubes have become a bit hard to find where I am, so i had to improvise 🙂 Bunnies LOVE a high rise, so mine has 3 levels.

Could you make a second level above? One grid isn’t very high for them to move about -if you could remove one cube, and then build up a second level above the cage that would be ideal.

Or you could make the shelf on the back wall

I woudn’t make it a shelf, what about a entire second level? 1 grid is too short imo, so all you’d need to do is open up one grid in the corner and then add however many grids for the sides (18?). Add linoleum or plywood for a floor, and she should be able to hop onto the box and then up?
