Ok, so those cubes they make come in timothy too… Dave really wants to stop hay and just use those. Providing my buns go for that is there any reason we couldn’t use cubes instead of hay? It would darastically reduce how much vaccuming we need to do, and I don’t see nutritionally how it’d be any different then hay…But what do you guys think?

I don’t think they will get as much fiber with those cubes – they are really meant to be treats not used as a substitute for hay in my opinion.

yes, the fiber is what is most important obviously and it’ll be more beneficial for them to have the longer strands. and i think hay is yummier. mine will get a timmy cube sometimes as a treat and they’ll nibble a few times on it and then they’re done. it’s definitely not a big hit like their hay is, which they dive into (literally and figuratively!)

I had hopes when I saw this post. My hay fever is getting worse and no OTC allergy meds make a dent in it.

I agree with Beka and Sarita 100%. They need the longer strands of unprocessed fiber they get from natural hay to push things thorugh and scrub the walls of their GI tract to remove any debris and toxins.
