So out of curiosity how many people’s buns are going through a shed right now? Bunjamin’s going through his biggest one yet. And most the buns at the rescue are shedding too. I’m curious if someone knows whether its a season thing like all bunnies do in at same time (location being relevant) or if it’s different for everybun and it’s a coincidence Bunjamin and the rescue buns are shedding at same time.
And on that subject, I feel lucky bunjamin cooperates for grooming. He lets me brush him and pick the tufts out (as long as nose rubs continue too) and he lets me groom his face all I want (it looks a little off right now because of the shed lol)
My rabbits do not all shed at the same time. I’ve noticed Bogie is starting a shed though – he seems to be my biggest shedder.
It doesn’t seem like my rabbits overall are big shedders and they don’t have a particular time of year that they shed either.
The days are staying light longer – I’m noticing it’s getting light at 6:30 a.m. so I know that has an effect on their shedding cycle.
Yeah, Leo seems to shed first and then Arduina, probably because he has more fur and longer fur (Arduina is a rex). So I would say its probably the climate and the individual bun.
Lola has been shedding for the past 2 weeks. We’ve already gone through an entire lint roller and I feel like my nose is constantly filled with Lola fur….. I keep hoping it will slow down again but not any luck yet.
My mini-rex is going through quite a long molt right now. It is only my second one with him and is lasting a lot longer than the previous one…I believe it is because it is warm here now (the previous was in the middle of winter). I’ve been calling him my “Moltin’ Chocolate Bunny”.
He is also having an amusing face-shed at the moment and looks a bit like he has mutton-chops. And, when he looks at me disapprovingly when I take too long plucking the tufts or laugh a little too much at him, the mutton-chops make him look even more amusingly disdainful. I need to get him a tiny tophat and maybe a monacle to enhance the look.
Tait just finished a mini shed, it’s been a few months since he had a big molt. Nate is finally going through his first molt since I’ve had him (7 months), I’m hoping that’s a sign that he is healthy finally! I’m so happy about the shed, because he had reallllyyy coarse hair and since the shed started, the new stuff is super soft and silky ![]()
Chacha has not begun to shed yet. She had a big shed in early Spring and nothing as of yet.
Monkey has her ghetto booty thing going on again. BIG fluffs back there. It’s hilarious ![]()
I’ve had rabbits for almost seven years now, and every time they go through a shed and start looking shoddy I start panicking that they aren’t well. They look so… bedraggled!
LOL. So maybe its a mixture of weather and season and light? Anywhoo, you can see how much fur I got off his face in a pet session on my bed. (sheets were cleaned afterwards)
Spelda started her molt about a month ago and is still molting.
I’m in Michigan too and it’s been awful. I think the rabbits have been shedding non stop it seems lol. I’m sure it has something to do with the crazy weather we had since winter. My holland is exploding right now and my dutch is just starting to shed, fun fun lol
All 3 of mine are done there big shed, thank goodness. They usually blow their coats around the same time, which makes for a lot of grumpy bunnies.
I read that, for horses anyways, it’s not the weather but the daylight change that triggers the shed and hair growth. I’m assuming its the same for rabbits.
Im on the other side of the world but its shed city here! Parsley will zoom onto my lap, sit there for a 5 second pat and zoom off, leaving a giant pile of hair everytime!
My dutch always seems to eat less too when he is shedding for some reason, my holland is the opposite.
Mine is nearing the end ( I hope ) he has been looking rough with all his tufts, he only lets me pick out the ones that aren’t under his chin/neck. He isn’t that great for brushing either, he only lets me do it for a few swipes before he hops away to run & binky
Both of mine are winding down on sheds now – Otto’s started over a month ago and Hannah’s a couple weeks ago. This is the worst part though because they get the tufts on the lowest part of their bums and they hate when I pull them out.
Mathias actually shedded quite alot right pefore he passed away. A bit strange seing its september ![]()
Yep, Peppy is on her shed. She doesn’t do a massive moult like I’ve seen on some buns, but there are dust bunnies popping up everywhere and my hands are always covered in bunny fur haha.
Skipper seems to be shedding constantly. She’s going through a massive shed of sorts. She had original shed off the sides of her coat and is now losing fluff from her dewlap. I wonder if its the season too. But you never know with Florida. It gets so hot and then cold.
Ditto Freyja. it’s molting madness for 2 of mine. They look awful! They have the muttonchop thing going on also. Haha!
We’re are coming into new warmer seasons here and more daylight. That could be a reason. Does this mean my others are all going to molt now????
I want to run clippers over them!
Oh no FrankieFlash! Black bedding and molting bunny… You poor girl.
Loved watching Bunjamin doing the dig-and-butt-hike. So cute!
Mine also have the furrows down the side like he has. They started shedding on the face, then shoulders and those parts down the sides.
