        Hey there,

A weird thing happened yesterday, Jimmy was sat in his cage and then all of a sudden froze and started thumping his back legs. I know this means that he was scared but there was nothing happening either around him or within earshot.

I was sat on the couch about 5 metres away so it wasn’t me. Do any other bunnies just freak out for no reason?

        Help!!!!

        Matt

Yes, at least for no reason that I can think of. I think they have more sensitive hearing than we do so it’s possible that he did hear something you did not.

What do you mean he thumped for no reason at all?!? You obviously weren’t paying attention to the bunny!! Geesh don’t ya know bunnies must be petted and fawned over 24 hours a day??? haha

Good point, I was checking my phone at the time 🙂

He did it at night as well while out of his cage. It is even stranger as he is fine one minute, binkying about the place like a maniac, and the just freaks out, thumps, hides, and then thumps some more.

We do live very close to a lake, do you think the birds are maybe scaring him?

              Cheers

there might be something outside, a bird or another animal that he senses. maybe a smell or sound that you can’t detect? one of our members has a bun who thumps to warn about earthquakes (and she has a pretty good track record!) or he might just be a weird bun (like mine… lol) if he does it again, look in on him to make sure he’s alright visibly. but if you can’t really see anything wrong and he’s acting normally, i would not worry about it too much. some buns thump more than others, for some it can also be a sign of displeasure at other things and not necessarily just danger or fear.

Thanks guys, at least I know he may just be crazy instead of in danger .

Will keep an eye on him over the next few days just to make sure.

                  Thanks again

I know sometimes Felony will thump and then immediately binky… I think it might be his way of saying “Look what I can do!” Bunnies…. So much personality!

                      Coco thumps at:

The people upstairs fighting ( ah, the joy of a duplex)
My daughter crying if I am brushing her hair
                      The garbage truck

and more recently, she thumps when the cat is walking in the hall. They have a fairly good relationship for a cat/rabbit – and I think Coco does it to say “HEY CAT – I TOTALLY know you are out there – so don’t even think of sneaking up on me” – The other 80% of the time, the cat sleeps in the bedroom here and she and Coco ignore one another….but if that cat dares to walk out in the hall. All bets are off.
