My 6-month bunny Jasper thumps around the same time every night.

9pm to 11pm. It started after he got neutered.

All the websites say its to warn other rabbits (aka us) of trouble. However, I can not think of anything out of the normal. There are no sounds, no smell, no sigh that is different.

He lived with my boyfriend while I was at college and Jasper never thumped.

I’m started to think it is for attention. Do rabbits do that?

He loves to nudge and beg for food.

Bun Jovi will often thump in the evenings. Usually while running around. I always imagine him running the “borders” of his turf, and making sure there are no intruders!

He also might be hearing something you cannot (maybe a neighbor’s dog always barks at that time, but it’s too faint for you to hear… who knows?).

Some bunnies are just more free with their thumps!

Rabbits can definitely thump to get attention, but that’s usually while looking at you. Breintje often hops up on the couch when it’s cuddle time. He’ll stare at me gaming on my PC, and if I’m not there fast enough he’ll *thump*. You have to know your place right
He thumped a couple of times before doing a binky frenzy too, so it can also be a sign of happiness as well.

Could you describe any other things you notice while he thumps? What’s his posture when he does that? And what does he do after he has thumped? Does he hide/cower, or does he run around?

What do you do when he thumps in the middle of the night? I’m asking because when my Bam was new with me, he took to thumping in the middle of the night. I, being a worried new bun mom, got up and fussed over him and gave him a snack. This of course meant I was rewarding his nightly thumping and making sure that he’d keep it up.

When I realized that I moved his cage out of my bedroom (he was caged at night back then, a million years ago it seems). I stopped getting out of bed when he thumped. It didn’t take many nights until he’d stopped the 3 am thumping.

I used this method because he seemed so pleased and greedy for treats each time I got up in the middle of the night. It was never like he was scared or unwell.
