My little munchkin is getting spayed tomorrow, I’m kind of nervous but happy that it is finally being done at the same time. She is staying over night at the vet so I’m bringing with her some hay and pellets. Anything else I should bring?

When Sunnuy got seutered yesterday, I brought his litterbox w/litter of course, his hay rack with alfalfa in it, a bowl of oat hay, a small bowl of pellets, his water dish, and a grass mat lol. Oh, and one of those mini wicker balls. They let me go in the back and set up his cage for him, so that his box was set up like it is at home!lol You could also bring like a towl/blanket/pillow case..something soft from home.

Water dish, softer foods like greens, soft something she likes to lie on. She’ll be groggy and tired and not hungry until she comes home.
Unless she’s like Samantha who surprised us all by being alert, hungry, and even a bit feisty so they couldn’t wait until she came back to me – a healthy, quickly recovering diva!

She likes to lie on the linoleum in her cage -.- I hope she has a recovery like Samanthas!

I put one of my tshirts in the kennel with Spooky so he would have something that smelled like me when he woke up so he wouldn’t be too scared.

I brought in hay, pellets, some greens, and her hidey hut. I just called the vet to see how she was doing and the receptionist said she is doing very well, very curious and mischievous but a little dazed; she knocked some of her pellets into her water bowl, which actually sounds like typical her. They put a cone on her so she is a little confused but the receptionist said that they get used to it quickly.
Question: I have a rabbit “condo” (http://www.rabbitcondo.com/). Should I block off the jumps so she is confined to the bottom level? I don’t want to risk any injury!!

Definitely block it so she only has access to the ground floor

Sounds like a plan, I shall do that

The cone thing I’m kind of iffy about honestly. My rabbit was neutered so I’m not familiar if there’s a difference with spaying, but an emergency vet recommended I put a cone on my rabbit when he seemed to be licking his stitches, and he did really poorly with it. Acted like a fish on dry land so I took it off him immediately, because there was no way he was going to eat/drink with it on.

My normal vet told me the next day that cones on rabbits should only be used in dire circumstances when it just can’t be avoided, because rabbits respond really negatively to the cone, often stop eating/drinking and get ‘depressed’.

I definitely hope you have a different experience but I wanted to let you know what mine was. Maybe someone else will have a different cone story to share or other advice.

Definitely talk to your vet about what to do if she doesn’t seem to be eating with the cone on etc. And ask him/her to explain why the cone is necessary. It might be because she’s already chewing/licking her stitches, but if she isn’t yet, the cone should only be put on her if she does from my understanding.

Just brought her home, she seems quite fine with the cone. She’s eating, drinking, flopping down and relaxing. I’m pretty sure she was licking her stitches, I’ve seen her try already.

The spaying went well and she really doesn’t seem any different, maybe a little bit calmer right now. I have to go back in 10 days to get the stitches out and they also said to keep her in her cage for 10 days, that seems like torture!

Well that sounds good, I’m glad she’s reacting better to it. My bunny was literally crashing into things and basically unable to stay standing with his on, even though it was a soft cone. Just wanted to make sure because I know my emergency vet was misinformed about it. Definitely better if she is trying to chew her stitches that the cone prevents her.

Her cone isn’t soft, it’s like a dogs cone but waay smaller and kind of goes backwards. I’ll post a picture because it looks kinda cute

End of the first day, she is eating, pooping, drinking fine.

I noticed a piece of thin plastic on her belly that was coming off, I had NOT noticed it earlier when I looked at her incision. Is it something to worry about?
