“It takes about a month for the hormones to settle after a neuter. Sometimes they can be even more bratty directly after a neuter but then things calm down again.
He might just be entertaining himself or he could be “telling” you there’s something he doesn’t like about his litter box. Sometimes it takes some experimenting. Did he always have the 3 boxes lined up or is this something you’ve had to do recently?
Try a larger box or different litter. You may have to secure his box to the cage side. Some people have done this by drilling 2 holes in the back and wiring it in place/ Or using a zip tie loop and clipping that to the cage with a dog clip. ”
I’ve had the 3 boxes (one is a triangular shaped corner one) for a good few months because he would pee/poop along the whole back wall of the cage, and it’s the only thing that helped. I hope you’re right in that his aggression might calm down soon.
Also, I’ve been using the same litter for a while too but maybe after the neuter he doesn’t like it so much? I could try changing it.
“try attaching the boxes to the pen..I had to do this when Jenny started throwing her boxes around, since you have them in a row, you could maybe use some rope or something and tie it straight across on either side of the pen, pressing against the boxes? I use snake “webkinz” to hold Jennys boxes in the corners, I can easily lift the boxes out, but Jenny cant pick them straigh up, so to her they are stuck lol”
I was actually given a good idea today, to nail down the same kind of plastic box but just put the litter box on it so that he might not take them out? Halo might be tricked into thinking they’re stuck too. lol
“And as his hormones settle down, my guess is you might be able to reduce the number of boxes down to one large litterbox. His poor habits were probably due to the hormones pre-neuter. Many people attach the litterbox directly to the pen. You can drill a small hole in the top corner by the rim, loop a ziptie thru, and then use a dog clip to attach the ziptie to the side of his pen. This will make for very easy removal and you won’t need a new ziptie everytime.”
It would be really nice to be able to reduce the amount of litter boxes, that way I could get nicer bedding/litter because I wouldn’t have to use double the amount. The ziptie+dog clip idea is a really good one. I shall try this if I can also
Thank you for all the helpful tips guys. I hope he calms back down soon
