This is why I am thankfull to have a mellow bunny!

Ok, I hear about people who have troubles cleaning their bunnies anal glands, or cutting their rabbits nails, and today I decided to do a monthly mantinance (I actually do it less than once a month but anyway…)

I cleaned Fern’s anal glands for the first time Yipee! and I cut her nails!

She was very good about it, and I was able to get it done fairly quickly, she actually did not struggle once. It would have taken no time if I did not shake when I cut Fern’s nails.

She did start to get restless after I had done her first three paws, she would dig the pillow I made her lye on,(I actually don’t make Fern lye on her back to cut her nails, I find it easier making her stand right side up) All went well and I feel satisfied about her nails.

Her anal glads, whew, I heard you guys say they were smelly but it is hard to belive unless you experiance it yourself. I had found them once, when Fern was younger, but they did not smell and were not dirty, it might have been becuase she was younger.

Fern was very good being flipped on her back for her anal glands. She did not kick once, which was very nice, and I did not even trance her (I don’t know how) She just lay there calmly as I prodded her trying to find and clean her anal glands.

After this was all over with, I tried to offer her food, but she turned her nose up at it and hopped away flicking her feet back at me.

So I feel very satisfied  with myself for doing the nail clipping and anal gland cleaning that I had been putting off. The more I do it, the more confident I get! Even if Fern gets angry at me for doing it .

P.S. I successfully taught Fern to “High five” (actually high ten)

LOL Congrats on doing all that yourself!!! I cannot believe you can just clip her nails while she sits there-thats one calm bunny!!

Oh and if she were on her back, calm-you tranced her !! Congrats!!

People like you are indeed lucky! I can trim Bindi’s nails while he sits on the grooming table but we have yet to tackle the anal glands. Wondering how the heck I’m going to be able to find the anal glands with such a hairy bunny. Someday, soon…I will be brave enough.

Congratulations! ^_^ Yup, I just had to take care of Pip’s glands the other day, but she is SO easy going when I trance her that it was no sweat….

Now the boys…erm…that’s another story entirely.

Nails though, that’s a tough one. Mim and Pip have brown nails, so I can’t see the quick well. Fiver is just too hyper for me to clip his.
So…probably another trip to the vet. *ugh*

LPT! Yay! Someone besides me who would rather not lose fingers to bunny when trying to clean anal glands! ^_^

I am not sure, I do put my arm on her head and I think that helps, but when I was done I removed my arm and she just looked at me and blinked, then flipped over like nothing had happened. There was no moment were she suddenly “woke” up as I have heard when some people describe tracing a bunny.

Oh Mimz, I would DIE if Fern had black nails! Our two dogs have black nails so we just get the nails clipped at the vet’s or the groomers.

Uhh, I’ve never cleaned Mr. Bunny’s glands…Now that I know how to keep him tranced, I just need to find some Q-Tips…
