reminded me that I have not posted pics of how I have their hay and litterbox set-up since I changed it awhile back…
I have determined with my two that they MUST have their hay inside of their litterbox, but then you run into the problem of them pottying on it if it’s not contained somehow (and you waste A LOT of hay that way…) When I had their hay outside of the litterbox, they would sit and eat and then leave poops right where they were, even tho they were 6 inches from their boxes… Also, hay was getting EVERYWHERE. They would dig it out and it was a major hassle to clean… Remember, this is how I had it before…

The way I have it now, they cannot eat the hay without being inside one of the litterboxes, and it keeps the hay out of the litter. Even tho the space in the “hay litterbox” looks small, they can both fit in there at the same time to munch their hay side by side. From time to time, they will dig out the hay, but even when that happens, the majority of it stays within the litterbox, so it’s not a big deal to clean up. I have a piece of cardboard right outside the pen to keep overflow from falling behind, it’s about 95% effective, I’d say. In the last pic you can see how I attach the hay container to the pen. I have a ziptie looped thru one of the holes, and with an extra xpen dogclip, I clip it to the bars so it stays at an angle. I position it the farthest I can into the corner of the xpen, that prevents them from flipping it onto it’s side (yes… I learned that the hard way… LOL).
The hay container is just a one dollar storage box from Walmart. You could probably find similar items at a dollar store. If the storage box were solid (without the holes) an option would be to drill two holes horizontally about an inch apart in the back of the box and then loop your ziptie thru that.
I hope this helps if you’re ever having “hay issues”… it’s worked wonderfully for us…

and just a pic of Maxie b/c he’s so Gosh Darn Cute!
He’s saying, “These are ALL MY veggies… Don’t tell Meadow they’re here.”
