Thickening of the bladder wall?

It’s Leah. Again. She is still peeing this stuff:

   

I’m email talking with Dr. Jeanne and she is now suggesting getting a bladder ultrasound to test for thicking of the bladder wall. Has anyone heard of this? Does this look like the stuff that comes out of a buns bladder from baldder sludge?

I’m a bit hesitant to get the ultrasound since it would be $435. Plus a two hour drive to the clinic. That is almost half of my savings. My father says i’m crazy for spending that much for an ultrasound for an animal. Especially a near 6 year old bunny. 

I’m a bit of a stand still of what to do….I don’t make a whole lot of money at all….

I don’t think that looks like sludge at all… (my opinion)

Is that blood – the pinkish part in the pee puddle, or pink sediment?
If blood, that is concerning. It sort of indicates that comes out last after the pee.

I’m sorry, I can’t recall info you’ve given on this in your other threads. Have you had her urine tested?
 

BinkyBunny might be able to shed some light… Jack had bladder stones that were injuring the bladder wall I think.

Could you negotiate a payment plan at the vet or use something like CareCredit?

 Hi,

She’s has had her pee tested recently. She’s also been on baytril for the last month + . I think it is blood. I can’t say 100%. It fizzled when hydrogen peroxide got put on it. I haven’t see her pee pee it recently, but i think it comes afterwards. It was the first time i saw the jelly stuff come out…… I think because it would be an emergency vet i would have to pay the whole thing at once. I’ve only talked to them on the phone to get a price and stuff. I have the money in savings, but…… Between her and the dog with “her” urinary issues…

I would forward the pictures with description to Dr Jeanne. She maybe able to start some sort of alternative treatment.
If that is blood, the colour makes it seem fresh, so possibly from the bladder or urinary tract. This is just me speculating though.
Is it more like a transparent reddish mucus?

I guess my question to the vet would be – if it is a thickening of the bladder wall, what is the prognosis or prescription for “fixing” this…

Hi,
I did forward the pics to the vet. I got this (only some of the email related to it): “Are there any areas that look like clots (I really don’t see any in the pix)? It does look like the urine is thick. Some of the color change can be normal rabbit urine pigment, but I would definitely be concerned about some blood in there, especially since she is still on an antibiotic” I sent the one that is more Orange in color in response. The muscas is a bit transparent. Thick, but not to to thick.

I asked about treatment in the response email. I’m going to try and get her in the morning before i go to work. It was too late to call her tonight since didn’t get home to my email till after six and they closed then.

I’m hoping there might be an alternative to try first. I’m not joking that in the last year i’ve spend a couple thousand at the vet first for Brighton, than Rachel, and now Leah (not to mention Izzy dog). Its really giving me burnout seeing all my paycheck go to the animals or to my car (stupid old man for hitting my paid off one).

Let us know what the vet says. It is alot of money to spend on a sonogram. I guess I would want to find out what would the treatment be and can it be treated without actually doing the sonogram….there will be a cost for that as well.

 Hi,

I talked to Dr. Jeanne twice day. Once on the phone at work and another in person when i went to get Leah’s meds.  Right now She’s decided to try treating it with some metacame for the inflamation. If that works than she might have Leah on it 3-4 times a week till it clears up entirely.  In our discussion we both agreed that it could be that the stuff coming out is what’s left in her bladder after it was cleaned. That’s because it started after her proceedure. She mentioned that the last time she had her pee test that “e coli” was the biggest bacteria that grew. Therefore she gave me a syringe and sample jar for me to try capture some next time she does pee it out. Leah’s to continue getting the SC three times a week. Also to keep getting the cranberries. That’ts because the cranberries and Cran juice will help keep the bacteria off the wall of her bladder. Dr. Jeanne said she did some research and said she doesn’t think it’s bladder cancer since it isn’t very common in bunnies. She’s also going to do some more research into it for me. If Leah is still peeing it after the metacame and the sample doesn’t turn up anything than i’m going to take her for the sonogram.  So that’s the game plan for now. I’m hoping it works. 

Does anyone know where the “e coli” can come from? I clean their litter boxes twice a day…..

The only way for e. coli to get into the urine internally is if it was in the blood stream. At least it is that way in people. If bunnies are the same as people, then that would be a very sick bunny.

It’s more likely that the e. coli is coming in from the outside. Is she dirty down there? Like poopy butt?
