So this is going to be a rant!

7 days ago my bf bought a rabbit   and gave it to me to take care of since I had one already.  It had a wet noes and this was concerning. It is a baby holland lop. And hasn’t been lathargic or anything funny, eating, drinking, and poopin good. But I hate to worry and if the bunny wasn’t feelin good I want to help her asap. So I call the stupid place my bf got her from and tell him about her nose, He was an @*! He told me to give it teramyicine. Then I told him that would kill her. I asked him if they would pay for a vet visit. He said no. Then said to put bleach in her water! He said it will kill her. I got off the phone and cried. How can a person be so cruel! To a sweet baby, its a living thing, you dont just kill sick living things! Oh I wish I would have said some mean things to him!!!

Well now I am at more of a loss than I was before I called this stupid man! I just can’t afford 60-70 bucks just for a vet to look at her and another 30-40 for what ever treatment.

Am I over reacting to a wet nose? Is it because she is a holland lop and has one of those smooshed in faces? What can I do? Surrender her?

        Help please!

O.K. Can you please post a pic of what it looks like? And you shouldn’t of said anything mean, hanging up was enough. Remember the golden rule, Do unto other as you would have done to you. And if you are a beleiver in christ then always pray for your enemies. I will pray for that person to have a right mind toward animals cause that is not right! How can he be so mean, your bunny is just like him except in different form. Your bun has feelings.

Maybe the reason he gave the bunny to you was because he knew the bunny was sick and didn’t want to take care of it. If your bunny is that sick then it might be time to end it’s pain( just saying if it’s that bad). I’m not saying to kill it right away, just see if it’s really bad, and usually a wet nose doesn’t mean much, my bun had a wet nose and it went away eventually. Just wait and see.

Well Lemon, you’re a bigger person than me because if anyone were to suggest such awful things to me, you better believe I would have ripped him a new a-hole – sorry! Can you pray for me too?

Agraybun, firstly, report him to your local SPCA. Tell them your situation and tell them what he suggested, bleaching your rabbit to death. Don’t know if they can do anything but it’s worth a try. Secondly, get your bunny to a vet asap. Hit your boyfriend up for the money – he’s the one who bought her for you. But please don’t deny this poor helpless bunny the medical attention it needs. Find a way to find the money

it’s not uncommon for petstore bunnies (was it a petstore or just some guy?) to be sick. it’s a good idea to have any new rabbit looked at a by a vet shortly after getting them, regardless of where they came from. call and set up an appt for a check-up for as soon as you can and tell the vet your concern when you go.

Was that creep the owner of the shop? If not, let the owner (his boss) know immediately, either by calling, email or in a letter, what his employee said and that you feel it must be reported to the SPCA. If the owner is good, he’s fired. If not, the SPCA may take steps. Then call the SPCA.
(It would be better to speak to the owner rather than put anything in writing they could construe as slander, however.)

That’s your second priority, I know.
The first may be to call vets and ask for advice and a payment plan.

                      agraybun:

I sincerely hope you will talk to this person [or the pet store owner for that matter], to let him know how you feel about his disgusting comment to put bleach in the water that will kill the rabbit!!

such a remark is beyond sick, and disgusting. this person has serious issues!! he really shouldn’t be allowed around any animals, yet selling animals in a pet store. it sounds like he has used this “killing method” before. that is very alerting. you also should report this to your local SPCA!! hopefully, they can/will do something about this. the guy may already have gotten complaints from other people. something like this can not be ignored!!

Also, its always a good idea to have a new bunny checked out by a rabbit savvy vet, especially if you already have a bunny. there might be some contagious disease.

most vets will work on payment plans with you. that shouldn’t be an issue. or maybe you can use a low interest credit card, just for vet visits. there’s always a way…

                        Hey graybun:

Call Animal Control on that freak and report him and that store! Obviously, he’s done the bleach/water thing before, so he’s just killing rabbits and who knows what else! Keep us posted on the health of the bunny. My vet in El Sobrante may be able to help you. Let me know if you need any info.

That is disturbing. I would definatly report him. Here in oklahoma we have a news program called “In Your Corner”. It’s a program where people who live here call in to rant about something bad a business has done to them and others. Usually they put the story on the news and confront the store owner about it. Most of them get shut down because of all the bad publicity   hehe. See if you can find something like that (if it was a pet store). That way others who are uneducated about bunnies won’t kill them because this person said to. I also agree you should have your bf help you pay for the vet visit. Good luck to you and your bunny!

Sorry Lemon but I could not in any sort of mind even think of praying for that man!  He needs stringing up … for Lordy’s sake!  I say pray to that!

Oh damn … having a rotten day ,,, but seriously this bloke needs reporting to authorities.

I know Osprey works for the shelters … do some shelters look at bunnies for a lesser cost than the vets.

You are in a dilemma girl … sorry but a vet visit sounds necessary … put your mind at rest … it may be nothing but we should never presume.

                            Keep us posted.

Thank you! for all your support guys!

However, since I unfortunately am not in the position to deal with this right now. [ And my bf told me to give it back to the evil guy–Which I will NOT do!] I will be finding her a home where they will get her checked out and cared for with lots of attention and love. And I am only going to give her to someone I know so that I can check on her and give them advice if they need. My mom is helping me too, by checking with some of her friends that she thinks would be a good caretaker.

Right now she is doing great- her nose doesnt run all the time either. She is eating, drinking, and playing very well! She is very sweet and Im sad to see her go, but I was not ready for a baby bun that needs lots of attention. Especially when my bunny, Smooches is a huge attention girl and she just got her spay surgery yesterday, I need to focus on my first lovey!

                              Thanks again!!!!

Love ashley (me) Munchkin and Smooches (the buns)

p.s I will add a pic of Munchie, when my camera charges

That sounds like a great compromise!

Oh, I’m so gald to see that you are finding a home for the bunny. What I say with animals is “If you can’t take care of it then don’t get it”. I think you are following that very well. I hope you find a very good caretaker.
