I got another email from Falines’ breeder and i thought i would share it here, she and i have been in constant contact since i started inquiring about her, I have asked her to spend some extra time with Faline before she comes to our home so she can get as much hands on as possible, the breeder is amazing and has put up with so much from me its insane hahahaha.

Ashley, I will do her tattoo, I need to do some others all at the same time. For a couple days it can be tender and maybe a little antibiotic cream if it festers which they seldom do. It will be pretty much healed before you see her so don’t worry.

My grandson and I watched a movie this afternoon and held “Sweet baby Girl” for a long time. She is very inquisitive. After being on my lap a while she jumped up on my shoulder and sniffed all over my face. She has the prettiest red eyelashes. We clipped her nails and I fussed all around her mouth and nose and she is not at all aggressive and in no way tried to bite or run from me. I think your getting a great little girl.

I cant WAIT.. the next +week is going to kill me!Please help the next 8 days go by fast! We should get her the first Sunday in August at the earliest.. that wednesday at the latest.

So, tell us about what your home preparations are like right now? Maybe that will help you take your mind of the wait, and help us help you prepare. How old again is your current bunny? What are your plans for them both…each….as far as housing?

our current bun is approx 5mos old. Rain resides in her NIC cage, ive posted photos of it and I have begun building a NIC for Faline, Rains cage is in our living room and Falines has started being built in our master bedroom. We already have the extra water bottle, bowls, toys, exc. Eventually Falines cage will be put flush with Rains so they can sniff and play without hurting one another. Our eventual plans is to house them together if bonding is successful. When we make the drive to pick Faline up I plan to take Rain with me so the two can ride in the carrier for the hour ride home, ive read car rides are good for bonding. great idea BB

ear tattoos    breeders tattoo their pedigreed/registered buns for identification.

i see. i’ve never had a pedigreed/breeder bunny or anything so i was not aware of this.

can i ask why you want to have her tattooed?  i’d personally hate to see her beautiful ears ruined and it doesn’t really matter if her pedigree is marked.

were doing it for ID purposes.. we also plan to have her and rain micro-chipped. Yes, I did request that she goes ahead and do the tattoo for me, the breeder usually does it automatically but because she hadnt done them yet (she was going to do all the babies from the litter sometime this week) she gave me the chance to choose what we wanted. She is getting A9 (she had asked if she could be A3, A=mom name and 3 for being third born, we went with A9 because A=Ashley 9=September, we wouldve had a longer tattoo for her but the less charectors, less discomfort) it will be less then ½ inch long. For my photography I can use my editing program to cover up the tattoo so we know its there but it will not show up in her photos. This way if God forbid something happens to her (IE: hurricane, she gets loose, exc) we can ID her.. she will have a tattoo and the vet will be more apt to check for a chip. It makes me feel more comfortable for ID purposes honestly, also her pedigree paperwork will indicate by color, sex, tattoo who she is.

that makes sense. thank you for clearing this up. like i said, i have no experience with this kind of thing. i am also going back and forth on the chipping thing since that thread last week.

I have a rabbit with a tattoo but honestly unless you were the one inquiring about her at a shelter they won’t know what it means. I have no idea what Maxine’s tattoo means – it’s very clear but I really cannot make it out. I also had a little black Netherland dwarf with a tattoo as well which I couldn’t make out.

We do tattoo the ears of the rabbits at the sanctuary once they are spayed and neutered (ie N2008 or S2008) with an S or N and the year just so that we know they have been altered. Actually the vet does this while they are under anesthesia after they have been altered, we don’t do this ourselves.

Hmmm the only thing we do at our shelter, was when we had that major influx of bunnies, they wrote their name or id number in their ears with permanent markers… I didn’t realize you didn’t have your second bunny yet!! Waiting stinks !!

I love the name Faline! I’ve never seen an EL but your girl’s picture looks adorable! I had to laugh at the description of a boy bunny holding one ear in his moutn and cocking his head to the side so he didn’t trip over his ears!

http://pets.webshots.com/album/64379931skKINo are pics of Rufus, the bunnyboy who carried his ear in his mouth.  He was a mutt but had a LOT of EL in him as you can see.

He had awful health issues for the last few years but his human is a vet tech and was able to keep him comfortable, and he was always alert and interested in what was going on – and always hungry!  She helped him finally cross the Bridge a few weeks ago.

wow. he really did carry his ear in his mouth! i believed you, but it ‘s different actually seeing pics! was it always the same ear that they carried? that make me wonder if bunnies can be “right or left-handed”… maybe he favored his right so he needed it easily accessible…

OMG that is HILARIOUS the way he held his ear!!! Sooooo cute. Im sorry to hear he is no longer with us, thats wonderful his human took such great care of them, sadly they just dont seem to live long enough. and look at those ears in the pic with him and the e-collar!!

On a lighter note: 5 DAYS UNTIL FALINE COMES HOME!!! I cant freakin’ wait! The breeder did send me a couple more pics of her and when i get home ill share one or two. Her tattoo looks great and is very very small. Already looks 100% healed, like it was always there.

…Did i forget to say I CANT WAIT, caring for Rain will hopefully keep my mind busy but even then, she isnt out playing and entertaining us with her antics either

gosh i couldnt imagine what it must be like for a bunny to have a tattoo, because it is very painful for a human! i know its good for her to have some identification but still, ouch!

kimberley, believe it or not alot of rescues tattoo their rabbits and their tattoos are HUGE!! Hers is very small, approx ½ an inch. I wouldve felt alot worse if she got a tattoo like most of the rescues ive seen, holy moly! some of them take up almost the whole ear

Yeah – Rufus was a real character.  And it was always the right one .
