This morning, I went to put the morning serving of pellets into the bun’s food dish and neither came running towards me as if they were starving.  This startled me a little bit but then when I offered rasins, only Maryann wanted them – Dono (the pig of the duo) just didn’t seem interested.  When I put the rasins away, I turned to catch Maryann grooming him (which is something she doesn’t do to him in my presence).  So, putting this all together, I suddenly was very afraid for Dono.  I picked him up and was happy to see that not only didn’t he want me picking him up but began his usual digging and nipping routine on me.  I couldn’t see or feel anything wrong so I am hoping that it was nothing more than just an odd morning for him.

But, as I forced myself to go to work this morning, I realized that even the slightest change in the way they do or act has me go 150% on alert and fearing for them.

boy do i know what you mean.  since they can’t talk it’s all we really have to go on.  i am quite certain that my friends & family are sure i’m neurotic at this point… especially given my interest in bunny poo.  it could def be just a weird day for dono.  i hope when you get home that he’s behaving normally.  (((((dono))))))

I hear ya! I always get uptight when I notice someone’s not doing something normally, even in the course of the day…because I find my buns are rather predictable even during the day (everyone’s in the living room and I just sit here on the laptop and watching TV) like – for instance, Kibou was sleeping in a weird corner of her cage earlier for a long time…and I got all weirded out. LOL.

I’m the same way. I try not to be too neurotic and give it 24 hours before I actually start calling the vet, medicating, handfeeding, sub-q’s or whatever. Of course I worry all day long and run up to the rabbits when I get home – usually it’s me and not them :~)

I’m the same way Markus.  My wife thinks I am nuts, but I always go into hyper-bunny-daddy mode when one of the buns does not eat.  I had another scare with DJ the other night, the night before I was leaving to go on a business trip.  DJ refused his usual bedtime treat from the girls, and he was peeing all over the place and drinking a lot.  I thought for sure he had a UTI.  I was so worried that my wife would have to take him to the vet, as she is not a bunny person.  Luckily, I gave him some simethicone and a little metacam, and after an hour or so he was eating again and not flopping around looking uncomfortable.  He’s fine now, could have been gas I guess.  He is also shedding a lot right now, maybe he has a lot of fur in his belly and is drinking more to compensate.

Deanna is a little drama queen, she goes through periods of time where she absolutely refuses to eat.  You can put a pellet in her mouth and she spits it out.  15 minutes later, she’ll be in the litter box vacuuming out the hay basket.  She also refuses to come out for greens sometimes, preferring to sulk in a back corner until DJ and Curly Sue have had their fill, then she comes out and eats.  They are such strange little creatures some tmes.

I’m the same way too. I think they will be just fine and they too have their “off” days. I bet the pellets are are gobbled up as soon as you leave.

Oh, everything is fine now.  Just walked in on him eating his pellets.  My guess is that he was upset with his first brushing yesterday.  Figured he’d sulk and get even with me.
