The scare

Yup needed a little shake up I guess.

I woke up at 730 this morning and Kahlua was by her lonesome hunched up by the litter box. Weird. I brought in spinach and banana (banana is her fav) and she didn’t eat any. So I pretty much freaked. I force fed her for most of the day periodically (I have a vet size stash of critical care right now!) and I was just sick. She normally gets irritated being pet, but let me pet her and hold her. Scary.

Now, she is fine, hanging with Rupert and eating…Umn phew? Gosh that was scray. I know I noticed quickly because I really watch what/when they are eating but ugh….just scary  I’m thinking I’ll just keep up some critical care for the next few days in case…

Oh dear. I know what those scares feel like… I guess she had a gas episode or the beginnings of stasis, and it sounds like you took care of it beautifully.

Glad to hear that she’s OK! It’s always really scary when your bunny is sick. One of my rabbits gets “episodes” like this occasionally. It’s usually caused by a sudden change in his diet or from too many sugary treats.

If this ever happens again, you might want to try giving her some infants’ Simethicone. It’s an over-the-counter anti-gas medicine. It’s really been a lifesaver (literally) for my sensitive rabbit when he’s gassy.

Yeah, what is it with dudes? “Come on honey, bunny will be fine, relax….” Oh yeah, right. >.< NOT possible. They mean well, but I have to admit, it doesn't feel helpful at the time. Like how I can't talk to him if he's working on the car, you know?

Does she need to be checked now that she’s better? I mean, is it clearly an one episode event, or could there be some kind of blockage giving her trouble?

I’m so glad she’s better !! I know how you felt- BunBun has done that several times and one time actually went into GI stasis, which of course made me even more hypersensitive to any signs of illness. Nelli has had two belly aches- just like Kahlua, I could tell something was wrong when she sat nicely letting me pat her. You just never get over that sick feeling in your stomache that you get when one of the bunnies is acting strange. They’re just so mysterious and quiet about being ill- it’s hard to tell what’s going on.

OK, so it’s not just my husband that is so clueless about sick bunnies? Lol- I’m sorry, but it is good to know :p. Rick (my hubby) ALWAYS gives the same response,”He’s fine, he’s just resting/not hungry/sitting in a different position.” If I try to talk about the next course of action if Bun doesn’t improve, he gets all upset and starts yelling that I need to “Calm down!” Lol- they tend to live in a dream world sometimes. I think they just hate to see the rabbits sick and see us upset, so they attempt to just wish it away. Very effective. I try to just ignore Rick’s protests and order him to help me if needed- it works better than trying to explain things to him.

I have noticed about Critical Care- if I have one pouch- I need more.  If I have 3-4 pouches on hand- no one needs it.  Kinda scary when I add up the CC and other misc rabbit stuff i have around.

That’s called “keepin Momma on her toes”. My bunnies like to give me little scares like that every now and then.

Sigh and she’s totally totally fine…I almost wonder if it was just too early in the morning for her and I’m neurotic lol See and it’s like Rupert is easy, you give him the treat test. If he’s not going frantic when he hears the treat jar…then that’s like e-vet time. Kahlua, often will come over for one…and just as often will chin it and waltz away….Little stinker. I’m just ‘phewing’ that shes fine.
She probably had to pull that since not even a month ago she had a ‘everything is perfect couldn’t be better’ vet visit…Monsters all of them! :p

K&K, the treat test is exactly what I do too, lol. Last time Peppy was silly and ate something she shouldn’t have, I treat tested her every half hour or so to make sure she was eating okay…turns out the little stinker was perfectly fine, and was probably wondering why I was being so nice with the treats that day!
