I was looking into neutering my bunny and how much it cost my vet says 211-263 depending on the bunny. This sounds a little pricey. I am paying for it myself and had about 100 dollars saved. Please share opinions

A lot depends on where you are. I think I paid more than that counting the before hand health check appointment. I also opted for the blood work because he was a new adoption & btween 4 & 5 years old. I also paid extra for laser surgery because of the easier healing & less blood loss.
I would have to dig up papers to check but I think it came pretty close to 400 in total. I’m in Kitchener Waterloo, Ontario.

In Southern California, the normal price range for a neuter was about $80-160, so it is a bit more expensive than I have encountered. It is very important, however, to make sure you have a very reliable vet for a bunny surgery. Have you called around to some different vets? I often use the vets recommended on the website http://www.rabbit.org. Also, if there are any rabbit rescues in your area, they can tell you which vets they like to use for their spays and neuters.

My boys neuter was like $80’ish, but every vet is different. I would call around a little.

I live in Connecticut and my vet is in a town that’s considered a suburb of NYC. They charged $300 (plus some additional for blood work) for the neuter, but this is definitely at the top of the average price range.

It does widely depend on where you live. I don’t think that price is out of range though…in fact it sounds about spot and and not terribly unreasonable.

You may try calling out of your area. Depending on where you live (especially if it’s considered an “urban area”) you may pay more than if you were to travel an hour or so away. If there is a rabbit rescue within your area, you can contact them for vet recommendations also. Some people have been able to save almost half by traveling a bit further.

I agree with Sarita, it doesn’t sound outrageous to me. $150 – $250 seems to be about right (though there are places that may do it for cheaper). Just make sure you get a rabbit savvy vet. That is very important and if they cost more – it’s worth it.

If you qualify for certain programs, I know in my area some neuters are as low as $35. The average is $50-$100 in my area, but I’ve been given quotes for much higher. Try calling your local SPCA or rabbit rescue and ask who does there rabbits and for what price. Also ask about any outreach programs they might have or know about. Of course you should also check out your local House Rabbit Society vet list and call as many vets on that list as you can and ask for quotes. Some will say they can’t give you one without a visit, but most should give some sort of estimate.

You might ask the vet what that includes, since I ended up paying just over $300 for a spay (more than a neuter costs.) She was kept overnight automatically, had a nail trim, and I requested metacam to bring home in case she had pain over the weekend, so that brought it up over my first quote of $250. my vet does only exotics, and I am in South FL.

Recently, I called the office that spayed my female to ask what they are currently charging. About 1.5 years ago, I paid $185 out the door for Meadow’s spay. The price has gone up $100 since then. They are now charging $280!!! And $220 for a neuter! This is just one more reason why I will try my best to never have to spay/neuter myself again. Adopting buns that have already been altered is the only option for me.
