I’m not trying to dispel any current facts but I wanted to know how someone came to the conclusion that a binky is a sign of happiness?  I swear until I heard what a binky was, I just assumed that my bunny got a breeze on her bum.

Hehe…I was thinking about this too, because sometimes we humanize things that aren’t and make assumptions…LIke people assume dolphins are friendly because their mouth is shaped like a human smile….

I guess the reason the binky is assumed to be happy as rabbits do it when they are out playing and generally do not binky if mad…Like they stomp when mad…I’m sure there is no research, more so observation. Like the foot flick is giving me the finger etc… I’m sure we are making an assumption, but it’s not a giant leap (no pun intended-ok maybe a bit) to assume this behavior is happy behavior!

lol… my first bunny (who i named Binkey with out knowing what a binky was btw) was binkying away like popcorn in his cage the first morning i had him.  first i thought it was cute but soon i was very freaked.  thought he was convulsing cause he kept doing it.  lol.  the emergency vet hotline told me it was a good sign and that my bunny sounded very happy.  duh.  that was my FIRST clue that buns were not a low maintenance pet.

Hmm, that is an interesting question. I am thinking it was through a series of observations and it was noticed like K & K said that they do it when they are playing or frollicking and not when they are mad or sleepy.

definitely means happy…have you ever found a really good deal somewhere like T.J. Maxx? Doesn’t that make you want to jump up and binky right there in the store? lol!

Yeah, I think it’s for sure the bunny “happy dance”. When Stormy does a crazy binky I can almost hear him saying “YAHOOOOOO!!!!”

ha ha Martie, I love a good bargain too and certainly feel inclined to do something binky like when I find a good deal!

It seems like most binkies are pure joy, but others are like woah, i didn’t know that was going to happen. i like it when the bunny lands and they’re surprised they’re somewhere else, ha h!

I love that too, Gravehearted.  Our new foster Suttara is a master (mistress?) of the 180 degree spin around binky.  She gets up a good bit of speed, jumps in the air, and lands pointing in the opposite direction.  She then stands there for a second or two as if to say "Hey, why is everything backwards".  Very funny.

The pause after the binky storm is wonderful, I especially like it when my Vicky binkies towards me and comes to a sliding halt on our hardwood floor and just stares at me, perfectly still as if she’s gaging my reaction – “Don’t act like you’re not impressed!”

can also mean lots of energy and playful, not always necessarily happy
