So, for the past few weeks, I’ve been checking into various shelters and rescues, to see if there was anybun I was interested in, as I’m pre-screening them for Warren.  And I think I found the shelter I’m going to get my next bun from – the rabbit room was clean, the rabbits were all gorgeous, and everyone there was so knowledgable! (My mom also ended up adopting a dog, when I was meeting a few buns!!)

First bun I met was Mrs. Cinnamon. They say she’s a Flemish Giant/Rex mix, and is a big, beautiful woman.  Granted, at 9 pounds, she’s three times the size of Warren, but he could use someone to put him in his place. http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10207279

Then I met Cassy. She’s a feisty 3 pound, 5 year old dwarf who had just been spayed.  I love her colouring, and she is about the same age and size as Warren.  She was a sweety and originally had been an outdoor bunny! http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10207278

Finally, I met Luke.  I’ll be honest, I just wanted to play with him – he was so cute.  He’s a gorgeous black lop, 1 year old, and about 6 pounds, and as his description says, the pictures don’t do him justice.  He was so friendly, when I met him…he was the only bun to even come check me out – even hopping on my feet and legs.  He even let my 12 & 8 year old nieces come and pet him. Luke stole my heart and I hope (even though I doubt) he and Warren get along. But they’re both males, so I know it’ll be harder. http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10207271

I wish I had a bigger house, so I could take all three of them home, especially Luke, but I’m really looking for a companion for Warren, so I’ll be bringing him with me next Friday, so he can meet all the bunnies there, and choose his own.  How can I leave him subliminal messages that he should chose Luke .  Anyway, they all were gorgeous, and all need homes, so whichever he picks will be perfect.  Of course, updates and pictures, when Warren makes his choice!

Wow, Cinnamon is such a great color!  So you have a choice of a big, beautifully colored bn, a cutie dwarf or a sweet lop.  Seems like a tough decision.  Good Luck!

Good luck on the dating. If it is possible, I would suggest taking him on at least two sets of dates on seperate days. Sometimes buns can just have a good or bad day like people and things might be drastically different the second time around.

I look forward to your bonding with them.

                    Mark

Sounds like the old TV show ”Love Connection” hosted by Chuck Woolery.  Didn’t the guest go on a date with 3 different people???  Just like Warren.

No, the guest listened to the interviews of three people and then he/she chose one to go on a date with. If he/she didn’t like it, Love Connection would pay for a date with one of the other two. But it is still like Love Connection as Warren can try all three (or more)

So, I took the little fuzzy one to meet potential mates on Saturday. I of course started with the buns that *I* liked, starting with the most unlikely, Luke. Luke is so sweet and friendly, and I wish I had a bigger home. I would love to have him by a part of my family. And he was hopping all around and even binkied….while Warren was safely locked in the carrier.  Now, when I took Warren out, all Luke wanted to do was mount him. So, the MSPCA lady grabbed Luke, and Warren hopped on my chest. (Apparently, this is uncommon rabbit behavior? Warren loves climbing all over me)

Then we brought out Cassy.  Warren hasn’t wanted to hump that much since before his neuter! He wouldn’t leave the poor girl alone.  When I did seperate them, he had a mouthful of fur.

So then we thought that maybe a big girl would intimidate him enough, so he wouldn’t feel the need to be constantly on her. So, Mrs, Cinnamon came out. And they both wanted to mount each other.  Mrs. Cinnamon was only out for about 3 minutes.

Finally, we brought out a new bunny, Ryleigh http://search.petfinder.com/petnote/displaypet.cgi?petid=10207277  And they sniffed each other, and then hopped away! Ryleigh hung out under the desk (she’s really shy and a little skittish, and my 8 & 12 y/o nieces were there) and Warren hopped all over the place, exploring, and then he groomed himself a bit, too.  When the kids were out of the room, Ryleigh would cautiously hop out to come over to me, too. She wouldn’t let me pet her, but she came to sniff my legs.

I did not get her on Saturday, because a few people had suggested that I do more than one visit. Also, I was getting conflicting information from the people at the MSPCA. I was actually hoping someone a little more knowledgable and caring about rabbits would be there when I adopted. The lady seemed to know what she was talking about, but acted like she couldn’t be bothered to help me. Indeed, when I had the 2 rabbits in the meeting room, none of the MSPCA people were with us. She suggested multiple visits. The gentleman told me I should just spend an extra 20 minutes with her, then bring her home that day. “Because she may not be here if you wait”. Which is a fair point, but I want to make sure Warren picks someone he can get a long with. All in all, I want someone who understands trabbits o be there when I actually sign the contract and hand over the adoption fee.

So, tomorrow night, I should get the new fur-baby.  I may change the spelling of her name to Riley – Ryleigh is too hard to remember how to spell correctly, heh.  And of course, I shall get pictures of her up ASAP.

That is soo exciting, Riley is so pretty!! She looks maybe part ducth or pure dutch I’m not sure! That’s too bad they weren’t very helpful. I get a little frustrated sometimes with shelter people but they deal with so much and work such hard hours, usually volunteering or underpaid; so I guess I can understand them being a little disinterested as many people look and take their time but don’t take them home or keep them!!!

                              Anyways keep us posted!!

So, Warren and I went back on Friday to meet Ms. Ryleigh again before I brought her home.  And everything seemed to be going well, other than he was a little hesitant to come out of his carrier. Ryleigh, on the other hand, flopped right out in the corner of the room, waiting for him. When they would actually go up to one another, they’d sniff, and he seemed to get spooked and run away from her.  Still, I wasn’t too concerned about them – Warren doesn’t spend too much time with other buns, so this could be weird for him.

About 20 minutes into their “date”, Ryleigh hopped right up to Warren and took out a good size mouthful of his fur! He didn’t know what to do – he wouldn’t let me pick him up, wanted to stay in between my feet, and had no problems at all hopping back into his carrier.  We’re going to try one more meeting, but I’m now having second thoughts about bringing her home. Any thoughts about what the next best course of action is?  The people at the MSPCA just kinda put us in a room together, but don’t observe behavior – I wish they did, so I could get some input from them =/

I just want what’s best for Warren – he’s been an only bunny since he came to live with me 4.5 years ago – maybe girls stress him out too much, and just wants to stay that way?

My bun Maryann has taken out perhaps a dozen mouthfuls of Dono’s fur so it isn’t unheard of. Marcy at Save A Bunny seems to believe this behavior, although bad, is not as bad as fighting and pulling fur is a way of showing annoyance. My guess is that when you got her home, and onto Warren’s turf, that things would change a bit as she would be unsure of where she is and Warren would have the home field advantage.

I can understand the ‘lone bunny’ thoughts – I thought it about Maryann for some time. And, some buns do like to be alone and hog all the attention but a fur pulling doesn’t mean there’s no hope. The fact that they’re not doing the yin/yang spin and fight means that they could get along. But it won’t be an easy road. you’ll need to put in a few weeks of work on them.

I’d definitely try another date.  Maybe sneak in a small handful of greens and see if they’ll share the pile.

So, we went back one more time, and Warren apparently remembered and feared Ryleigh. He refused to come out of the carrier, when she came into the room, and then when I picked him up, and put him on the floor, he just jumped right up on my shoulder.  Every time I tried to put him down on the floor, he hopped right back up on me. (Which is adorable, but I could tell he was stressed).

So, we decided to meet with Cassy again. She was the dwarf that he wanted to mount constantly the day of our first dates. And they sniffed eah other, walked away, walked back, sniffed, walked away, and then each of them cleaned their feet and faces….and Cassy binkied. (And I liked her better than Ryleigh). So, we go back one more time on Thursday or Friday and meet with Cassy again.  If they’re still getting along, she’s coming home with us.  I think Warren likes her! He even seemed sad to get back in the carrier and leave her there =/ He wasn’t his usual “I hate being in the car” self.
