Giselle loves to dig and scratch anything so I decided to make her a diggy box. I did what the toy test page suggested and filled a laundry basket with shredded newspaper and hay. I know it’s ok for the bunnies to chew on the newspaper, but when she got in it for the first time, she started eating the newspaper. I took her out quickly, because I was worried that the ink from the newspaper would hurt her. I’m not sure if her doing this is ok, so I just confiscated the diggy box. If it isn’t ok, does anybody have any ideas for what else I can put in the diggy box? If I just put hay in there she’ll get bored with it, or think it’s a litterbox and then her litterbox training will be kinda useless because she’ll be pooping all over the place. Any suggestions?

I know for certain that the ink used in white and yellow pages is soy based, and therefore safe for bunnies. You could always shred one of those books instead.
I had thought that newspapers were using soy ink as well, but not sure about that. Another option is to buy plain newsprint and tear it up instead. You can get a really big box of the stuff from any U-Haul store, or just buy a pad from an arts and crafts store. paper isn’t good to eat a lot of, but if the hay is there she should catch on that it’s the tastier item in the diggy box.

I think that the newspaper I used uses soy-based ink as well, but I’d rather get the pad from the arts & crafts store. Better safe than sorry! Thanks for the idea RabbitPam
