› Forum › THE LOUNGE › THE CHALLENGE: Post your bunny’s picture (UPDATED 12-17-08)
We’re putting together a Bunny Breed Encyclopedia!
The buns posted here are not the “Official Breed Standard”, and many of them may be mixed with another breed that is not obvious from their appearance. Many of those Official Breed Sites have small, blurry pics… and frankly, they are a little boring to look at. This thread is the answer to those sites, in a fun, community-minded format. Your bun may or may not look like any of the others, and THAT’S OKAY!
After each breed topic is the pic of a bunny, and then the bun’s name and the member’s name in parenthesis. Any special notes are listed afterwards.
A Special Note: I’m so pleased that KokaneeandKahlua has sent in pics of her rescue bunnies! They are a fabulous bunch! If you’re interested in adopting any of the “HERR” bunnies, please check out this Petfinder page… search.petfinder.com/shelterSearch/shelterSearch.cgi
The rules are…
ONE pic per bunny. If you have multiple buns, try to post all their pics in one thread, along with their names and what their breed is (to the best of your knowledge.)
We’re looking for clear, full body shots if you have them. If not, please share what you have currently and I can always edit in a better pic if you get one later.
Post the largest version of the pic you have, up to 640 x 480 pixels (this is the “large” size on photobucket…) I can resize your pic if I have to but it’s time-consuming… so if you can do it before posting, that would be even better!
If you have a mixed breed, please post their pic and include what you think they might be. If like many of us you have no clue, that’s okay too! We want to see them all!
Once you post your pics, I will edit them into some kind of cohesive thread and I’ll delete the original posts…
We have a special section at the end for the mixes and the “don’t knows”… if you think you can identify a mixed bunny, please post which bun and what you think they might be. If you have a link or pic to back up your claim, please include that as well.
If you don’t have any good pics, this is an awesome opportunity to take some. For help uploading photos, please email myself or any of the forum leaders and we can walk you thru the process. Or you can email the pics to me directly and I will add them in…
Finally…. have fun!

Lightchick,
Not to worry. I am now convinced that Samantha is mostly English Spot since she’s so much like Lizzy. However, despite the website info., my vet thinks she’ll only be around 5 lbs. Unfortunately my vet isn’t good (she said) at knowing the ID of breeds, but it’s pretty clear she has every characteristic except the dark muzzle. I’m still hoping that’s due to a handsome Min Rex in her mother’s past. We agreed that she is not a Hotot. Her eye and skin is not black.
Beka, This is fantastic!!!
DID YOU SUBMIT A PHOTO OF SAMMY YET?
i think i only have Spockie…
Kokaneeandkahlua the last bunny (Himalyan/Californian?) in your rescues picture post looks to be a blue himalayan netherland dwarf. If you look up pictures of a blue himalayan netherland dwarf on google the pictures it brings up look almost identical to the last last bunny pictured of your rescue bunnies. That last bunny looks just like my female black himalayan netherland dwarf Pixie except she has black points and your rescue bunny looks to have blue/lilac points. I’m not trying to tell you what breed of bunny he/she is but I thought I would point out the similarities and that your rescue maybe be a himalayan netherland dwarf. I know maybe knowing a bunnies particular breed doesn’t affect how you feel or treat that bunny, but I didn’t know if your maybe like me in wanting to kinda know what breeds you bunnies are. Just thought I’d see what you thought. All of your bunnies are very cute by the way (as are everyone elses).
updated!!! it’s looking great! if you have not contributed yet, please do!
Beka-
THe first bunny is my Cooper
The second is not mine but if I could find where she lives I would SO steal her! She is jus so pretty!
Maybe if you dont have one that looks like Tigerlily then you could use her? I “borrowed” her from dissaproving rabbits.com

Oops! I did not yet submit a photo of Samantha Bunnykins. I was hoping the vet or the pet store owner would be able to give me more info, but the only thing I learned was that I was way off with her birthday. She’s most likely born between Aug. 28 and September 1st. So I had to postpone her spay one more month. She’s now 15.5 weeks.
My best guess is a mix of: A. English Spot without the nose mark, B. Mini Rex
We’ve all ruled out Hotot because her skin is not black, and the fur is gray and brown. She looks more like an English Spot to me every day – she just wiped her nose. Opinions please?
Palomino! yayyyy xD So I’m not sure that Honey is a pure palomino– that is the closest breed most can assume– though shes only 4 1/2 lbs.
What a great compilation! I’m pretty sure that Tucker (currently the last bunny on the thread) is a Silver Martin.
The vet clinic I work at specialises in rabbits and always has baby netherlands, velvet lops, dwarf lops and harlequin coloured dwarf lops as well as adults. Should I take pics of them or are pictures of babies no good? I’ll also post pics of my cashmere lop and “mystery bunny” asap. Very excited!!
Quantum – she’s a foundling, so I have no idea. Maybe a English Spot or Checkered Giant mix?
I just love all of the bunny pics!
That’s kind of my guess too moobunnay, I think that she’s a cross between a silver marten and a dwarf. She’s got the coloring but she’s smaller then they are and her ears are shorter. She also could be a brittania petite because they’re about her size and can have her coloring and body structure.
victorswt, I’m also adding the other shots from your other thread as they show their bodies more so.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the black has a bit of Flemish giant in him, possibly even the white too.

Here is my Polish Girl (almost posed too!).
I don’t know what he is. My guess is Netherland Dwarf and Mini-Lop, but it could be something else. And yes, he is standing pretty much at full height in the picture. He doesn’t really have legs.
1st pic is the clearest full body pic I have. I forget what the shelter description was, but I think Delilah was a holland lop (I’m pretty sure) or a holland lop mix. Sorry for the red eye..
2nd Pic is baby Pudge(growing into his ears LOL!) he’s a mini lop.

CL’s: – Could we pwease have this thread pinned in Lounge for a bit?
Lostbutnotforgot, your Hubble is a real puzzle. I’m thinking his face shape is a bit Holland Loppish (like Mimzy and Peepi) so maybe he’s a H/Lop Netherland dwarf cross? Maybe blue chinchilla colour? How much does he weigh? Is he stretching out in that picture?
Edit: Oops! Didn’t see you already thought lop x N dwarf.
Anyone see a bit of Dutch in victorswt’s black bun (Gangsta)? Just looks like start of a white blaze on the nose and then there’s the foot…….I vote there’s some hotot in Missy, his white bunny. Maybe some Flemmie in them both coz the ears look so big in those pics!
What do we think Thumper is? I have no idea of his lineage, but he looks like he fits in with the Dutch’s best to me… He’s teddy-bear brindle-brown, except for the white markings that you can see on his face/chest. He’s got a Roman nose and big wide ears. And he’s SOOO SOFT! (Snuggle-bunny…)
Oh yeah, def some Dutch in him! Glad he’s become your weekend bun – it means piccies and we get to see him! He’s lovely!
jerseygirl: I thought mini lop instead of Holland because he is a little bigger and I think he was supposed to be even bigger. Plus if he is mixed with dwarf then he would be smaller anyways. His face really reminds me of my friend’s mini-lops too and she has quite a few. The color works as well, since she has two that are similar to his chinchilla color. Yes, he is standing up and a little stretched out. There is another picture of him in the “Odd Rabbit” post under Diet and Care. He weighs about 4-5 pounds, so he certainly isn’t big, but I think he was supposed to be bigger.
Beka27 and CL’s: Oh, also, could we maybe make this a breed AND color list, or maybe make a separate list of different colored rabbits? Like Robbie, Lightchick’s bunny is a…? It looks otter to me, but I might be getting that confused with something else. Or Tonks (evansvillegirl26) is a Castor.
I don’t know what Robbie’s coloring is “technically,” either. Never heard of “otter…” I thought maybe he was agouti, but he’s closer to grey than Binkles Agouti, for example…
I think she right Lightchick! Take a look at this http://www.rabbits-online.co.uk/Rabbit_Colours_Info.htm
Read Otter description and click on little right hand picture.
I find the cross over of colours and breed names all terribly confusing. Some people just have the knack for identifying them though!
That’s a really helpful little guide, JG!
Okay, I just went and swooped up Robbie to poke at him (earned myself a thump and several footflicks!), and I think he may be an agouti-color, rather than otter. The guide talks about agouti having bands of different colors along the shaft of fur, whereas the otter is just solid with different “point” and belly colors… Robbie’s fur is definitely different colors all along each hair. It’s just that the primary color is grey rather than brown….
Ha! I didn’t read the agouti description very well the 1st time…….the tan on nose, back of neck, cream belly. This all seems to fit Robbie too.
Thanks again jerseygirl for finding this thread.
Here is Beeslee an English Spot. This was told to me by someone and not sure if that’s what she is. When I looked up bunnies online she does look like one.
Beeslee the lounging buns!!!
cool! here are my fuzzy wuzzies… Pinky is a New Zealand White as far as i know. and dearly departed Baby was a mini lop.

Charmin Jersey Woolie
Bunykins,
I definitely think she is part English Spot at least. She has the nose mark, which Sammy doesn’t, and more blended spotting on the sides. But her back end is just like Sammys = that raised up butt and tail, which makes the back legs higher and creates a space between belly and floor when they stand. It’s a silhouette thing that made me decide that Sammy is almost all English Spot. I suspect that a lot of breeders who get Spots that are not show quality are dumping or selling them off lately.
Lindsey, I am coming to steal Charmin. Talk about adorable!
Thanks Rabbitpam. She also has a racing stripe down the middle of her back. This is what I saw in the pics on the web that made me also think she was an ES. Not sure who owned her before me bc she was found in the woods. Someone could have been breeding them and after finding out she was not the best probably dumped her. Vet did say she was about a year old to year and half maybe.
You can see the stripe here better
The Lounge: Two buddies in love thread
https://binkybunny.com/FORUM/tabid/54/forumid/6/postid/99872/view/topic/Default.aspx
Hi Bunnykins. The ES typically has a butterflied nose, eye patches, a cheek spot, the stripe down the back and dappling each side. They have a hare like, racy body. I would say Beeslee def has some ES in her.
Thanks jerseygirl! The way Beeslee races around the room I would def say she has “a hare like, racey body”! Yea the more I see pics of this the more I would say she is one or atleast mostly ES. Well in my eyes she is the best and I love her no matter, even if she is a ES or a mutt!
Oh, and do think there might be a chance we could get this thread updated? It would be easier to navigate.
Here are 2 of my bunnies. I’ll try to get pictures of the rest and post them soon
1st is Pixie: a himalayan colored Netherland Dwarf (she wasn’t happy about having her pic taken ) p.s. please ignore the poop
2nd is Sophie: a blue colored Jersey Wooly (she was sleepy in this pic)
