I don’t know how it happened, but somehow, one of the bunnies managed to move the incredibly heavy barrier between the bunny rooms, and they got into the same room and fought while I wasn’t watching…

I thought they weren’t hurt at first, but then I discovered a little blood on Mr. Bunny. I examined him, and he isn’t injured. But then, I discovered a big tuft of Ms. Rabbit’s fur with a big piece of bloody dried skin attached to the bottom.

So, I examined her. On one on her shoulders, she has a patch where there’s a layer of skin missing. It’s really shiny, moist, and a mix of pale white (her skin color), pink and red. It’s about the size of a quarter. It wasn’t bleeding, but it looked really , really nasty. It looked like there was a whole layer of skin pulled off.

EDIT: I can now also see lots of thread-like blue and red veins just under the skin, so I know it’s really deep.

        What should I do?

I imagine you won’t get a vet right now unfortunately. I would clean it and watch her carefully to make sure she eats and poops. Just clean it with water and put a little neosporin on it.

            How is she acting?

She seems to be very fearful of humans, and she’s hiding in a box right now.

And yes…I don’t think I can get a vet on the phone right now. It’s 6:30 PM on a Saturday.

That’s not good, she might be in pain. Do you have any metacam? Can you get her out and soothe her.

No, I don’t have any Metacam. Is it a prescription?

It is. Can you get her out and check her out more? Soothe her – she may be scared.

I checked her out very thoroughly about 10 minutes ago – as far as I can tell, this seems to be her only major injury.
The last thing she seemed to want was any petting/holding.

I know it’s hard, I think she’s scared. I would make sure she feels safe and leave her alone to see how she does and leave her some fresh fragrant herbs to entice her to eat. Is the area secure now? Can you put a sheet or something over her area so that she can feel secure and doesn’t see Mr. B right now.

I’ll put one of Mr. Bunny’s blankets over the cage so that they can’t see eachother.

Do you think she’ll be alright until tomorrow morning as she is?

Thank you for all of your help.

I think at this point, you need to let her be alone and watch her very very closely – that’s all you can do…make her area as stress free as possible. I hope she feels better soon. I would look at her wound tomorrow and evaluate it and if you think you need to call the vet Monday, then call them first thing. Do try some fragrant herbs and greens to entice her to eat. Vibes to Ms. Rabbit.

                              How’s Mr. Bunny doing?

Mr. Bunny seems to be fine. He got a couple of very small cuts from the whole ordeal, but otherwise, he’s doing alright. He seemed very tired from the whole ordeal.

How are they both doing this morning?
I would call to arrange a visit, preferably with both of them in case he had some wounds that could lead to infection, first thing tomorrow. Vet may not need to examine both, but bringing both covers all bases. The neosporin might be a good idea on him, too. Today you can work on securing the barrier, but let her rest and stay calm. Hopefully she’s eating and pooing normally, which means she isn’t ill yet.

Ms. Rabbit seems to be doing fine. She was very happy to see me this morning, and she ate her treats and pellets readily. Her wound seems to have scabbed over, and it isn’t as delicate now. Right now, she’s doing pretty well, so I’m just watching her.

Mr. Bunny, on the other hand, isn’t doing well – but it’s from his chin gland infection, not the fight. *pokes “Mass on chin” thread*

Glad Ms. Bunny is fine! Will look at your other post now.
