Cross lots of paws that is all goes okay!

Anything I should be concerned about when they get home?  I sent them off with some salad and hay.  They should be done and home around 5:00.

Make sure they have a comfy and cool place to rest. Do a quick vinegar clean of the litter boxes so that they are fresh and germ free for the guys. Keep an eye out for infection or pulled stitches. And don’t be surprised if they aren’t that interested in food first day. Hope all goes well!

Good luck. My biggest problem was getting Rosy to take her medicine. If it’s liquid, wrap them tightly in a towel so they don’t hurt themselves and squirt it in the side of their mouth, behind their teeth. If it’s powder, I made Rosy a little lettuce sandwich with the medicine mixed in a tiny bit of jam in between lettuce pieces. You’ll figure out what works best for yours

When mine got home he only wanted to rest. We put a small bowl of his favorite greens next to him and he finally started nibbling after about six hours. The vet said that he should take it easy and not be allowed to jump up on anything for a few days. Also to check the site you can make him stand up on his hind legs for a treat so you can see if everything is ok. The vet used a long lasting pain med and called us a couple of times to be sure everything was going well. He was back to normal in 2-3 days.

If you haven’t picked them up yet, ask for a small amount of painkiller to take with you (usually metacam) in case there is any sign of pain – unless the vet offers it to you automatically. Ask for a small syringe, too. Just a precaution that may not be needed, but if there is any discomfort, it will be in the first 24 hrs. or so.

Keep everything on one level for a few days, like take down platforms or anything they like to jump on. Jumping puts a strain on the healing site, so being less active is helpful. Change of appetite is not unusual, also resting, so don’t be too alarmed.

Watch for redness, swelling or oozing at the site. If so, call the vet asap. feel free to call the vet with any and all questions! That’s part of the service.
If you need to examine the site and have trouble, hold a treat up just above the nose so bunny has to stand up to get it. While doing so, lay a hand mirror on the floor next to the bunny’s feet and check out the wound by looking down into the mirror. It’s a good clear view without picking up or struggling. Then let bunny eat treat! Hope they did well.

My husband picked them up. When I got out of work last night they were still pretty groggy – I don’t think that’s even the work – they were totally out of it and it was kind of scary. Their eyes were glassy and they looked uncomfortable. I honestly though dragonfly was dead – he was so motionless – normally when I go in to see them they stand up and hop or make some sort of noise – he barely moved

I told myself that with my cats and dog they were kept overnight – so they were feeling much better by the time I saw them – where as they let these guys go pretty much right after surgery.

Anyway – they gave me little prefilled syringes of pain killer and both buns took them pretty well I just put it in the corner of their mouths and when they opened a little I put it down their throats. I’ll have to see what it is – It’s not metacam – unless there is a new generic version of it. We used metacam a lot for our 18 year old dog a few years back.

They seem better today – they ate their breakfast – had more pain meds and are sleeping a lot. I did check dragonfly’s belly – hoppers is not about to move and he so hates being handles that I’ll wait until tonight at least.

So they are on the mend I guess. It seems like it was go hard on them – such delicate little creatures.

Glad they’re home and doing well.  I find it so nerve-racking even when it’s a minor procedure.  I can’t rest until they’re fully recovered.

I’m glad to hear they are on the mend. I know when Elvira and Hossenfeffer go in for their altering, I am going to be a nervous wreck….

they seem much perkier tonight. Hoppers did this periscope stretch for greens- and his not yet deflated boy bits look – well red and fleshy – but otherwise fine. lol

They will be fine in a few days I’m sure

It is normal for them to be a bit swollen but they shouldn’t be that way for too long, so call your vet if they don’t go down. The fact that your bunny ate greens is a very good sign! It’s not uncommon for bunnies to not want to eat until the next morning, so yours are doing very well.

Males typically recover pretty quickly so I bet you will see even more improvement tomorrow.

                                Keep us updated.

The boys have it easy. I recently had one of my male dogs fixed and he didn’t even act like anything was different when he came home that evening.

Same with my male dog! I remember having to lay down on the vet office floor because he was trying to jump up and lick my face he was so glad I came back for him!
