        Hey Guys,

Sorry it’s been forever since I’ve posted! Just had a couple of comments about how myself and the little guy have been getting on!

So I’ve been wondering, do any of you have a single bunny? I’ve read several times that they really should be with other bunnies, but I just don’t think I have the time/space/money for a second bunny right now. Every time I go to the pet store to get Thane’s food, I see the lionhead bunnies and just fall completely in love! There have been several times my boyf has dragged me out of the store for my own good!!

Thane has started to use a corner of my sitting room for pooping and peeing in. This only started after I came back from a week break in Belgium and I had left him with my sister. Before, he had never misbehaved like this. Could he literally of been pissed with me? Also for the few days after, there was pooping everywhere too! But he seems to have calmed down big time now. I’m thinking he might of just been stressed out?

I put in a tshirt that smells of me in his cage. He seems to really like it. He digs it around in it and lies in it. I was wonderinf have any other BB users tried this and had any results?

I really haven’t gotten into a routine with his pellets. I basically just make sure he always has some in his bowl if he wants it and always has hay. I think I need some advice on this, actually. He’s roughly 7/8mths now and is about 2lbs!

That’s really about it. I’m hoping to bring the little guy in for a snippy snip in the next week.

        Love Emz and Thane! xx

          Hi. Cute piccy!

Funny, I totally do think of him as a boybun now. Bet it took some time for you to adjust.

Thane has started to use a corner of my sitting room for pooping and peeing in.

Likely to do with his age now. It might still be a problem after the snip for a month or two. You might have to put a litter box there. Once they toilet in a spot you need to get the smell out otherwise they remark there. This can be difficult to do sometimes. What are you using to clean up the spot?

Could he literally of been pissed with me?

No. I know it can feel like it’s a spiteful behaviour but it isn’t.

Also for the few days after, there was pooping everywhere

This would have been his marking territory. Maybe since it felt like a new space or just that he recognized he was home again. Territorial marking usually (hopefully) dies down as you saw.

I’ve read several times that they really should be with other bunnies, but I just don’t think I have the time/space/money for a second bunny right now.

I think it’s just they are happier with general companionship. So you are that for Thane. They can be just as content with human companions. I had my 1st rabbit as a single bunny for 1 1/2 years and I never felt she was depressed or unhappy.

Ha, I know. He feels like my little guy now alright! It did take some adjusting. I kept calling him princess haha!
Em, I’ve only been using carpet cleaner. Luckily it doesn’t smell, so it isn’t a massive concern. His littertray is literally beside the spot in his cage! What would be best to clean it do you think?

And that’s great to hear about having him on his own, it was something I was concerned about for some time. I love the guy to bits, would kill me if he was unhappy.

I have a single gal she’s been with me since a baby and now she’s 1 1/2. I don’t have the money to get another (and I respect my dad) so Chacha and I have each other. I would def wait until you have the time and finances to enjoy your little ball of love!

Aww, thanks for that doll! I guess as long as I’m here with him he’ll be okay.
I love the little guy more than anything!

                  Oh yes
I went through a period when I began to think that Chacha is lonely. She does not show any signs of it (no sulking or highly destructive behavior) and she is happy to bother me for pets.. Uh, I mean, demanding for pets that is *stomp*

I work during the day, and she sleeps during the daytime, so it all works out!

                  Thane and you are cute!

Well, I’ve not been working for the last three months, so we’ve been inseparable! I’ll miss him so much when I do start to work again.
Thanks for the lovely comments, it’s all him really!

Thane seems fine for the most part. Is rarely destructive. He’ll usually stop chewing on the wall if I give him a stick or something. Maybe I should leave more lyng around for him.

He’s absolutely adorable! I’m so glad you asked about single bunnies – I’ve read that they shouldn’t be alone too, and I’m glad to hear that people can satisfy their social needs. Peppy is a single bunny, but she has four people and a dog.

Regarding having two bunnies, in my experience, it totally depends on the rabbit. Eddie definitely needed a companion. Getting Lolli didn’t really deter any of his behaviors other than he seemed more ok when I left him. lol On the other hand, I thought Lolli was going to need a companion when Eddie passed away but it’s been 9 months and she’s completely fine. She has bonded with me more. Although I’m sure she would like another friend, she’s always been more independent and is ok.

So as you can see, it really does depend on the rabbit. If all his behaviors are normal and he isn’t getting too clingy with you, chances are he perfectly happy with just you!

                          Aww, thanks. He’s my world!
Yeah, I’m mega attached to him, so I spend all my time in the sitting room just hanging with him. He usually likes being left to do his own thing. If he’s not happy he’ll come looking for me.

I’m still curious about feeding him, any tips?

Also, has anyone noticed when their bun is lying down and you rub one of their ears, they clean their corresponding paw? Like if I rub Thane’s right ear, he’ll start licking and cleaning his right paw!

I may make a thread about that!

I also have a single bun, and like you whenever I go to the pet store, those bunnies, ahhhh I can barely resist. There was even one recently that had those two polka dots on each cheek. Coulda been thane’s sibling. But also like you, I can’t afford another one, don’t have the time either. Maybe one day. But my bun seems perfectly happy. He is a very sweet lovey bun. He loves pets, from the tip of his nose all the way to his puffy little tail. And his cheeks. He does not like to be picked up.

As to the poopy issue, when my bun was about 8-9 months old (don’t know exactly how old he is, he was a rescue) he started pooping all over, just poop, no pee. Then at about 10 months, which was a month later, he started FLICKING URINE ON ME AND MY HUSBAND! Oh yes. He did. So not cool. I got him neutered ASAP! Thank you care credit and immediately all of his bad habits stopped. I know that usually it takes a while, but not for my bun he has never flicked urine on us again, thank goodness, and his letterbox habits are near perfect. No pee anywhere butbhis litterbox, ever. I got him neutered about 3 months ago, he weighed 3 lbs. 2oz.

One day I am going to post a picture of him! I have had trouble with that.

Oh, and feeding pellets, I give my bun 1/8 cup in the am, unlimited hay all the time, greens in the pm. Only sometimes do I give him an extra scoop of pellets at night, like if I have been gone and not spent any time with him ( guilt ) I have found that too many pellets and his poop is too small.

That’s interesting. I think I’ll ask for advice from my vet too. I never feed thane any fresh veggies, he has lots of dried apple and carrot to chew on. Maybe I should start giving him some broccoli?

Lolli gets 1/4 cup of pellets per day plus unlimited hay and her lettuce at night. At his age, you should be able to start incorporating lettuce/veggies into his diet.

Organic baby spring mix lettuce. I don’t eat a lot of veggies and she hasn’t ate anything else I’ve tried to give her. Occasionally she gets cilantro and parsley.

Carrots are high in sugar, so be weary of too many. Also, I’ve HEARD (not confirmed) that broccoli crowns can cause some gas issues.. and it’s not the funny kind. My boys love red bell peppers, cucumbers, romaine, spinach, and broccoli stems.

It’s definitely ok to have a single bun! I think Hannah needed a friend – she was very interested in Otto from the start and was hyper and sometimes destructive. I don’t think Otto cares one way or another. Sure, he snuggles with her and I’m sure he likes having a friend, but he was just fine before and didn’t really seem interested in other rabbits (he was so uninterested that he just started eating hay whenever we put him with a new rabbit – he didn’t care about interacting). They’re definitely all different!

Especially since you’re home a lot and spend a ton of time with him, I’m sure he’s perfectly happy having you as a companion.

Yes… as Tate said, the broccoli heads giving gas is a problem… I have rabbits and a guinea pig and both can’t have them or else they get upset tummies and wet poop! I have heard that an ounce of pellets per pound of rabbit is right, but smaller rabbits may need more because of their metabolism or something. Hopefully neutering him will help with the pooing problems! I feed romaine lettuce, a little bit of carrot, parsley, and other veggies and occasionally some fruit.  And he is probably good with you being home alot

I’ve read the same thing about the broccoli crowns; however, I do give them to my bunny – just one small crown – in her daily salad when we have broccoli on hand. She does fine with it, but I wouldn’t want to give her more than that, just in case. She also eats the leaves and stalks, which are supposed to be better tolerated. I give her a good mix of greens, lettuces, and fresh herbs, and just give her broccoli and carrots sparingly.

Incidentally, she’s my only rabbit. Right now, I’ve no intention of getting another because she seems so perfectly happy. I can tell she loves her time with me, but she also seems not to mind being alone. Sometimes she snubs me if she’s busy doing something in her cage; she makes it clear that she will come out to play with me when she has finished her task and not a moment before! So, I read a book and wait, like a good slave!
