As I’ve mentioned before, we’re planning to get a friend for Puck in the near future, so obviously I’m trying to get everything lined up and organised as much as possible before we get her home so that we run into as few unnecessary obstacles as possible. One of the things that keeps coming to mind is the idea of neutral territory and shared territory after they’re bonded. Assuming all goes more or less well and we successfully bond the two of them, how do we avoid Puck getting territorial about the space he’s currently living in and that we’re planning to expand for the two of them when they’re bonded? I’ve read about switching cages so that they don’t get attached or territorial about one cage or the other, but what if one of them is already established where you’re planning for the two of them to live? Will switching cages and mixing scents be enough to avoid him getting shirty when it’s time to move in together or are we going to have a problem?
There just isn’t enough space in the flat to move them both permanently to a completely new area – they’re going to have to be in the living room; not least because it’s the area with the most traffic so they’ll get the most interaction from us
