Terrified Bunny

I have a female bunny that was taken to the vet today, she’s 5 months old and had an appointment for a physical before her spay next month. She had a bad experience at another vet at about 4 months old , so I found a rabbit savvy vet on the House Rabbit Society, she’s a great vet and is very caring and knowledgeable, I had my male neutered last month. Here’s my problem. Layla my female totally lost it, she was grunting and crying, she wouldn’t let anyone touch her, she jumped and 4 people couldn’t hold her , she almost landed on her head. She’s a very loving and good natured bun , none of us could calm her down enough to get a physical . It broke my heart to see her so scared. The vet is going to do the physical before she’s spayed but I still need to take her for wellness exams etc. Is there anything that I can do to calm her down? Herbs etc. Any advice would be appreciated. I was so upset that I cried on the way home. I felt so bad for her, but she does need to see the vet occasionally. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about the situation That does sound pretty bad.

Does she have anything in her cage or area that you could bring along with you when she visits the vet? A fleece blanket, a stuffed toy etc? Lots of bunnies are calmer if they have something that smells familiar when they’re in an unfamiliar environment.

This happens to me with Asriel every single time. He even ripped his neuter site open from kicking and flailing so much. Rescue remedy is a good option and bringing along some favorite treats for her to nibble on. I’ve noticed this really helps Asriel a lot. Sometimes they do have to sedate him, so hopefully yours doesn’t come to that.

I put in her favorite fleece and a molar chew which she loves. I will try the rescue remedy , I gave that to my mail when I took him. She gets spayed on the 2nd of November. I’ll try the remedy and see how that works. Fingers crossed, she’ll be a nervous wreck and ill be crying and half near throwing up lol. Thanks for the advice.

Sorry to hear that. I have a bun now that HATES being picked up. The vet is pretty difficult but she’s only been to the vet once, so far. Let me know how Rescue Remedy works for your bun. I’ve never used it.
