If he seems relaxed while you are cuddling with him- then I would read it as a happy sound of “teeth purring”.  If he is tense and feels like he is about to spring away or is afraid to move…then I would think it would be a stress noise.  2 common teeth noises are “tooth purring” which is a happy response and “teeth grinding” which is a pain response and is typically louder than purring.

Each bunny can have their own individual personality and quirks so maybe he sounds “chattery” when he is happy.

KatnipCrzy- You explained it very well. If he seems relaxed while he is making the sound then my guess is he is one happy bun!

Little Man makes teeth sounds too. I wouldn’t really really say its like the chatterin when you are cold though… it’s just click click click. I definitely don’t think it’s a pain response. I was wondering abou this last night…. Trying to decide if maybe there;s something wrong with his teeth and he needs to see a vet.

The purr and the scared noise can “seem” similar – I had the same issue when Coco was a new member. I would hold her and she would make noises that were kinda like the tooth purr she makes when I am hitting all the right spots around her neck.

But it wasn’t. It was the “I hate this and you should put me the hell down right now” When I would set her down, she would foot flick me as she scurried away.

personally, i can’t hear Meadow’s tooth purr at all. but i can feel the vibration when i give head pets or cheek rubs. some may naturally do it louder than others.

Cotton’s tooth purrs are loud.  Snap snap snap sounding. He cuddles up to my hand and just loves his special pets.  Last nite I was talking to him in his house he was all stretched out.  I was on the floor. He shut his eyes some and made his tooth purrs even tho I wasn’t petting him. Cotton boo what a boy.

Tooth purr no need to see a vet (as long as you can look at the context and see a reason they’d purr and be happy) it’s the same as cat’s purring in meaning!

A very loud grinding, coupled with context like no one touching them, not happy looking indicates pain.

Sounds like your bunny is purring to me!!

I have this problem. Charlie purrs really softly & I can only feel vibrations and not hear it. I think Layla has a aturally louder tooth purr but I’m not sure. She’ll sit down next to me and grind her teeth when I say her name. Sh’ll be relaxed looking, spread out bunny lounging but it sounds really loud. Is it a ‘don’t touch me tooth purr? I’m so lost when it comes to Layla, she’s such a mystery to me.
