I can’t tell what this noise is coming from ElderBun. I have heard other buns teeth grind and it’s not like this but I’m also not sure and scared because of everything else that’s going on with him and he’s much tinier/weaker (always have been) so am open to his sounds being different. He does this whether on the opioid or not. Even when eating, taking laps, and most of the time, not related to the breathing sound. It’s not all the time but seems to be increasing.

Sounds exactly like when eating/chewing hay but happens when he’s clearly not; I’ve watched him like a hawk. He did start eating that basil after I took this video. This only started recently, after major breathing noise crisis. His breathing noise is actually getting better but I hear this more and more.

When on the opioid, he is eating less. I was hoping of back off a bit so he eats more. He seems to not eat much hard foods like pellets or the Garden Stick but will eat softer like little mush pellet, CC, and Meadow loops. He does eat a little hay, especially when off the opioid or near the next dose but then I hear this sound and think he needs more meds.

          Hi mia,

I tried to watch the video but it was set to private.

Is he on tramadol? My senior did well on it but I still had to supplement him with Emeraid daily. It did take a bit of an adjustment. If my memory is correct we did tramadol once per day and meloxicam twice per day, spaced out so the tramadol was in between the meloxicam doses. I think his arthritis just made it too difficult for him to eat hay or pellets eventually.

            Oh, try again?

            He’s on Buprenex.

Ok, they said it’s not pain grind and nothing found wrong with teeth. Just uncomfortable :/

Still not eating much even though he’s actually pretty active. He’s lost quite a bit of weight since crisis started 2 weeks ago.

Hmm… that’s interesting. I have heard pain-related tooth grinding and “I’m frustrated” tooth grind (that’s a single, deliberate grind)… but this seems different. You could be right though, different bunnies might just sound different.

Have you been regularly supplementing with CC? You mentioned he will eat it.

He went to vet yesterday because he stopped eating overnight; no stasis. They just said he probably just doesn’t feel well, like a really bad whole head sinus infection. He is actually fairly active, even when he stopped eating; he probably exercises as much as pre-crisis.

Because it’s a breathing issue, I was told not to force feed. I do leave CC mixed with baby food out as well as mushed pellets. He has stopped finishing it all. When he does eat, he eats herbs and he does eat some hay, but much decreased from normal. Right now, he’s chowing down on lots of herbs. When he does eat, I give him 2x the amount of herbs that I’d normally give, but it just doesn’t have enough nutrients so he’s lost a lot of weight since this crisis started. Should I do unlimited herbs?

He won’t eat cookies any more but he’s always been a super good boy in making sure he eats enough hay and veggies instead of eating junk food so it’s not too surprising.

I emailed the vet to see if they can prescribe the EmerAid intensive care; not sure if it’s right for him but I’m hoping it’s more liquid? I’m trying to find recovery food that’s more liquid that I can put into a small syringe and gently  squirt a tiny bit at the front teeth for him to lick off. CC is too clumpy to do that. I tried to wrap some CC in a mint leaf but as he ate it, the CC just fell out the other side :).
