Hello, as some people may know, I was fostering two sister babies that were rescued from impending death by the county of Garden Grove.  They were in a rescue of 400 that we did, and I picked Teeny Baby and Big Baby out of a group of 12 because Big Baby was very sick with the sneezes, and Teeny Baby had been attacked by another bun and had a big cut on her back.  The two of them have been inseperable, and Big Baby never sleeps without Teeny Baby’s back as her pillow.

Yesterday they had to go to the vet for an operation, and Teeny Baby had a tough time waking up from the anesthesia, she unfortunately went into cardiac arrest, and MIRACULOUSLY was revived – the vet work on breathing for her for 1 hour before she started breathing on her own again. Unfortunately, the cardiac arrest left Teeny Baby with some brain damage, and she is currently not able to eat or walk on her own.  Teeny Baby was renamed "Mary" by the hospital because of her miarculous recovery.  Unfortunately, Teeny Baby will not have to stay at the vet for therapy – they think she will survive but will need to re-learn how to eat and move around on her own. I do want to say that the vet told me this is an extremely rare situation – and do not want people to take this as a reason to be concerned about spaying and neutering their bunnies.

I would just like to request healing vibes/prayers/wishes or anything else for Teeny Baby as she recovers, especially because she’s now separated from her sister – I think she’ll need them more than ever.

Thank you (Teeny Baby is the one on the bottom being squooshed by her sister – fortunately she seems to enjoy her role as pillow!)

            UPDATE:

I went with my boyfriend to see Teeny Baby at the vet yesterday – she was much more coherent this time, and was even kicking her legs and obviously trying to stand up, so Bri and I propped her up so that she would be upright. In this position she had to lay her head on the ground, she doesn’t seem quite strong enough to lift it up yet, but once and awhile she would lift her head up for a minute and groom me or Bri or herself, which was great to see

I talked further with some rescuers and all of them said this was the first time they’ve had this problem with one of their bunnies – and they’ve seen hundreds and hundreds of spays – so I just wanted to re-iterate that this is not a reason to be afraid to spay your bunnies!

Aw MooBunnnay, I’m sorry. I know that must be hard to watch. Sounds like Teeny has been through alot and still has a challenging future, but from the sounds of it, her spirits are strong even in her state, and I hope continued improvement will offer her a good life.

              Keep your chin up!

I hope the little hunny bunny pulls through.  It is so hard when the little ones are sick.

                          Hello all,

Teeny Baby passed away this morning in her sleep. She was well loved and will be missed by her foster parents and her Big Sister. I am very confident she’s now binkying in the clouds, leading a much happier life.

Thank you all for your good wishes.

OH MY! I’m so sorry!! That’s so sad. Are you okay? I know that must have been hard. Did they ever discover the actual reason that this happened? Just for future preventative reference.

You and yours are in my thoughts. Those clouds sure are lucky to have her binkying around all over them. My late bunny Forrest I’m sure is there to binky with her.

Poor Lil Bubba!  That is awful!   God Bless her Soul.  What will happen with the other bun?

                              Hugs

                                  Hello,

Hmm I bet Teeny Baby is up there using her cute lil face to talk Forrest into stirring up a ruckus with her

The root cause was really completely unrelated to the spay – the vet told me the surgery went just fine, it was just a rare thing that happened when they were closing her up, she thinks it was a blood clot that somehow got to her heart. She was still quite small, but I was told that didn’t really impact it too much either. I know that she is going to a much better life, as she could not move on her own. She slowly stopped eating, I think she knew that it was her time to go. The only thing that I regret is that she was not able to be with myself and her Big Baby when she passed.

Big Baby is doing OK, recovering from her spay, and we are looking to bond her soon to make sure she doesn’t get too lonely.

Ah, MooBunnay, I am so sorry to hear about your baby.  Just really bad luck it seems, there is no way you could have done more for her.

Hello – my BF is still cheering me up by telling me how he sees Teeny Baby flying around with wings and a teeny wand leaving Teeny Baby sparkles wherever she goes. I do miss her a lot though.. its the first bunny that I’ve lost. Then, today, they PTS (put to sleep) three 4 months old baby hotots at the Santa Monica pound that we were trying to find emergency homes for…I hate when any bunny dies, but when its little babies that never had a home it really tears me up even more than normal.

*shudder* killing babies is just so wrong.  We are totally full right now too, the result of a bunch of litter rescues and abandoned Easter Bunnies.  Though it is easy to blame them, it really isn’t the shelter’s fault, they have limited staff, space and resources, and can only keep so many.  What is so infuriating is that somewhere, very close to you, some pet shop or feed store is selling 4 month old hotot babies right now, and people are buying them.  It just makes me so mad.

I think it is great that your BF is so supportive.  I like the idea of baby bunnies with magic wands.

Thanks so much for your concern & thoughts…its helped me a lot to be able to hear support from other people who love buns as much as I do

Since Teeny Baby only lived a few short months, I’m planning a mini-fundraiser so that I can make a donation in her honor to the Bunny Bunch for their Building Fund, that way the spirit of little Teeny Baby can live on much longer!

you should make little wings to sell that you can put on bunnies… or maybe white sparkelly bunny cookies…

i’m so glad that there are people like you in rescue.
