I’ve posted about these two before but I had to take about a month break from bonding because I was just to busy and a little defeated. When I had first started bonding, Sirius groomed Sybil on the first date and Sybil would lay down near him. Sybil would groom herself but never him. They would eat near each other and never fought. I started to get a little defeated when Sybil started getting territorial over their shared play area and wouldn’t let him play out there. It was at the point where he wouldn’t leave his cage if she was out. Their cages were side by side throughout all of this. So I took a break, and they got a new rabbit room.
In the rabbit room, they each have huge condos, but they still have the shared run. When I’m cleaning the cages, I let them out together and they do fine. Today, i decided to do a little intensive bonding session because I move in two weeks and I won’t have the space for two cages any more. I started on the washing machine, and Sirius groomed Sybil most of the time and even laid on top her as if to protect her from the shaking. After that I put them in the shared run space.
They seem fine and they both run in and out of each others cages with no problems. Sybil actually eats Sirius’ food and uses his litter box. They both were eating Sirius’ hay at the same time at one point. The problem is if Sirius touches something in her cage, she grunts and lunges at him until he leaves her cage.
What should my next steps be? They were both fixed in April so I know it isn’t lingering hormones.
