So my best friend’s ferret passed away several months ago and she gave me her ferret cage over the weekend. It’s a nice 3 story cage that stands about 5ft tall. The platforms are nice and wide for bunny resting, but the ramps might need to be made wider. He’s currently in a XL dog crate and I can’t decide if I should switch him over or not. It’d be more room, but only if he used the levels and platforms. Did your bunny easily learn to use ramps/platforms if you have multi-level cages?

        What do you think?

He’d basically be moving into this but the ramps seem kinda steep to me? Do you think he’s actually be able to use them? If he didn’t end up using the ramps, it’d be a much smaller amount of space to move around in.

Ferrets like to go up, while (in my experience, which isn’t a whole lot) rabbits prefer having more horizontal space. I think an XL dog crate would probably be preferable for a bun so they can sprawl and do a mini binky and whatnot. And, with my clumsy buns, I would be scared they’d accidentally fall and break something because, although I love them so ridiculously much, they ain’t the most coordinated of rabbits, and they’re extremely fragile. But I am no expert! Maybe there are buns who would prefer this.

Those ramps look steep and also narrow. That cage doesn’t look to be very suited for a rabbit. I think the XL dog crate is a better idea for a rabbit. Have you ever thought of attaching an x-pen to the crate to give your rabbit extra room?

I agree to stick with the dog crate. While my pair love their second level on their cage, they also have lots of room for hopping around on both levels, Apollo frequently does binkies inside the cage. The ramps also are definitely too steep and you would need to convert them to steps up to each level. You can always add a second level to the dog crate for him to jump up onto.

SeeShmemilyPlay, I had a lot of those thoughts too haha with the clumsiness and wanting to flop about.

Thanks guys. It was a nice surprise when she thought of me to drop it off, and she’ll understand the decision not to use it There are some nice wide platforms however, so I might pull one from that kit and add a second level to his current dog pen- I’ve been wanting to do that forever anyways haha :3 #projecttime

tobyluv, I don’t have an X pen for him but the door to my room where his cage is has a babygate so he gets plenty of run time. Since this cage suddenly fell in my lap I was just mulling over possibilities

Azerane, definitely a good point about the ramps and steps. That might be a little more than I’m wanting to get into at the moment haha.

Thanks for all the input guys!
