As most of you know I’m adopting a bunny, she comes home on Friday. She is litter trained, and her current owner says she’s never had any problems with her going outside of the box. She sent me a picture of her current condo which I love, but I would like to get her either an enclosed litter pan, or a high back pan, versus one with the lower sides, to kind of help with the “mess” also I feel like it would give her more privacy too!  anyway, my question is, would changing out her pan possibly stop her from wanting to use a litter pan or is it like cats, once they are trained they are trained?

        Thanks so much!

          I don’t think a different
litter box will matter if you use the same litter. just be aware, when rabbits are in a new place they will want to mark there territory.

Thanks! I pretty much figured at first we would have some accidents, or marking, kind of like bringing in a new dog that is housebroken, but pee’s on the carpet anyway! LOL I think I will probably wait a few days and let her adjust before I start changing her pan or anything else…Thanks again!

Are you getting the old pan? If you are, I would stick with it for a week or so, let your bun have it as something familiar and homely. Then switch it.

If you’re not, it’s not big deal. Just start out with the one you want.

Thanks Grumpybun, I’m actually getting her whole setup, she has a 3 story bunny condo made from the storage cubes, But I’m thinking a will wait at least a week before changing anything on her, I just wasn’t sure if it would cause her to not want to use the litter pan or not.

I would absolutely keep the old box for a short time to make sure she continues going where she needs to go. Some rabbits are very sensitive about specific items, others are sensitive about location of items. I could replace my buns’ litterboxes with a shoebox, a rubbermaid container, a litterbox made of Legos, AS LONG AS it was in the same spot with their litter, they wouldn’t care.
