I just got my boy bunny Max neutered yesterday. He’s got some swelling near the area and the skin is pinkish red. Is this normal recovery or should I be worried? He’s my first bunny and I’m super paranoid and I don’t know what’s normal! Thanks so much

There may be a little pink and some minor swelling. Do you have a photo? Also,is your vet open on the weekends? It’s always a good idea to consult with your vet with any post surgery questions.

Is is doing okay otherwise? is he eating and pooping by now?

As long as he doesn’t look like this you’re probably OK.

This was my Digger the day after his neuter. I took him to the vet who said this only happens very infrequently. They gave him a steroid shot and he shrunk down considerably by the next day.

It is pretty normal for there to be a little bit of swelling, but the swelling should be decreasing as opposed to increasing. Also, a pink-ish color is normal, but a very bright red, or any discharge from the incision is not normal.

Calling the vet may be a very good idea.  They can relieve your concerns or see him again to check.

Yeah he’s doing great- eating, pooping, standing up. He’s pretty active- no binkying or running but he’s hopping around and being his curious little self. The swelling has gone down some and the area isn’t red anymore- just skin colored. I think he’s on the mend!

He definitely doesn’t look like that. I’m sorry Digger (and you) had to go through that!! Thanks for the picture- that definitely helped.

Great this is good to hear.   They sure can worry us.  Glad to hear he is on the mend.
