starting a few days ago, my bun has been extremely skittish when I get close. He used to be mellow and I could do whatever, but now every time I get close he gets super frisky. Is this because he’s scared, or is he just being frisky?

Hi! Is Louie fixed? Sometimes if they’re not neutered they can be “moody” at random times. What is he doing when you say “frisky”? It’s also possible that you’ve done something to upset him and he’s still resentful for it. Any changes in the household recently? I would suggest giving him time and space, as well as positive reinforcement. You can allow him to approach you as he wishes and be ready with treats to show him he’ll be rewarded when he’s affectionate. 🙂

Any other behavior changes? My mind always goes to a medical problem first whenever there is a sudden behavior change.

Buns can also change personality a bit when they hit puberty… I think I remember your bun is pretty young? Baby bunnies are usually fine with being picked up, but once they hit puberty most bunnies do NOT like to be picked up. Do you handle him a lot? Maybe he is anticipating that and not looking forward to it?

He is about 5 or 6 months, I noticed he is behaving like this at strange times of the day. I don’t handle him much, just a few pets here and there when he comes close and wants attention. I’ve only had him about a month, and don’t want to be too touchy. Today, I think I realized the extra frightened behavior. Right next door, very close nearby, there is loud construction and I think it is putting him a little bit on edge. And he is fixed, so I think that’s the main reason for his behavior.
