I like to think I’m a fun-bun-mum, but I’m more of a nurturer than I am playful.  Most of my time spent with Thumper is me gazing at her while she hops around and explores everything or sits and gazes back at me, following her around while she explores, and the two of us grooming each other.  But not at the same time of course, because that would be difficult.

She loves getting in every nook and cranny she can reach in the house!  She’s not big on toys except for a sea-grass straw mat she likes to destroy and her Maze Haven, diggy box, and tunnel which she likes to romp around once in awhile.  Sometimes if I present her with a toy (i.e. keyring, toilet paper roll, straw ball, paper bag, apple wood chew stick) she will toss it around, but it’s hard for me to tell whether she’s playing or just wants to get it out of her face and continue on with whatever she was doing at the moment.  She likes being chased and races around when she’s outside, so I’ve tried switching it up by playing tag or hide-and-go-seek with her but she doesn’t seem to understand.  I’ve started clicker training with her but she tires of it pretty quickly, wandering off to do her own thing.

So to sum it up, I want to be able to have a fun time with Thumper and see her binky more, but she seems to like doing things on her own most of the time.  Is this normal, or am I just missing out on some awesome games she might enjoy?

Bugsy likes bunny football. Now this is going to sound strange & i call it playing WEE but:
When she got humpy & was still too young to be spayed, she would come & jump on my foot to try to hump.
I had slippery hardwood floor then, tile now. One day I gave her a gentle & I do mean gentle shove with my foot.
It sent her sliding about 3 feet & she came binking back & sat next to my foot so… I said, “WEE,” and gave her another shove.
It’s 3 years since she’s been spayed but she still loves playing WEE.
I’ve never tried it with the other 3 bunnies. They were all already adults when I adopted them so not as playfull.
To clarify I’m not kicking her & it is always her that comes & sits by my foot waiting for her push.
The slipperier the floor the better, she loves to get the distance.
I’ve never sent her farther than about 12 feet & I’m always very carefull that there is nothing for her to hit.

            That’s so cute!

Sometimes when Thumper tosses objects I say “Wee!” too.  Unfortunately, she only has access to a carpeted den area and backyard.  Sounds like tons of fun, though!

Thumper is only about a year old, I rescued her when she was pretty young (not entirely sure how young) but she’s never really seemed that playful to me either…  Though my mom says that when I’m not home she likes chasing her around the yard and has a lot of fun with her that way.  Even does binkies, apparently.  Makes me kind of jealous.  (>.<)  She never binkies when I chase her around the yard!

Oh I played something like that with Kokanee! Actually Dave figured it out, he’d pick her up and gently toss her onto the couch saying ‘weee’ and we knew she LOVED it because she’d come runnign back to him and hop into his outstretched hands (a bun who did not like being held). That’s too funny another bun likes something so goofy too!

QT maybe you have to curl your hands and say “I’m gonnna geeetcha” when you chase her All buns have different play styles so once you figure it out, you’ll know what kinds of toys/games she likes!

Gotta wonder if their humans squeeling “WEE” & giggling has anything to do with why they like it.

My first bunny, Xiao Pang (translation: Little fat), LOVED to be tossed onto the bed. Whenever I did it, it would crack me up because she would stretch out in the air as though she was making a great leap instead of just being chucked. lol. Aw, man, I miss that little bunny!

My Calypso has never been much for playing with me the way that Xiao Pang used to. She loved playing catch with her Pringles can, chasing my hand and being tossed. I’ve often wondered if Calypso is always bored, because I never really see him playing GAMES. He binkies like a maniac, but, other than that, doesn’t seem to entertain himself. Hopefully, he’ll start playing a bit more now that he’s got Echo.
