Sugarbear and Cinnabun Take 2

Well, we have been trying to bond these two for a few days now.  It’s been a month since the big surgery for Shuggy.  For a while Shuggy has had access to a section of Cinny’s pen.  They like to spend time together at the pen, sniffing and chillin out by each other.

We would put them in a confined area together and Shugg would ingore her for a while…. and then start the grunting and mounting. He would stay on her and not let her move.  Sometimes getting a mouthfull of hair.  We tried this a few times and were getting anoyed at Shuggy. Cinny was always a perfect angel putting up with his shinanagins.  The other day I let Cinny into Shugg’s part of the house to explore with a barrier up to keep Shuggy in the front room while I cleaned her pen.  We opened the barrier and let them mingle.  Shuggy did his usual grunt – mount act and she ran away.  After a few attempts he gave up and just followed her.  Yesterday they eat out of Shuggy’s bowl together, she minds when Shuggy  eats her food but Shuggy is cool with sharing.  We noticed Cinny giving him a couple thank you licks but not any serious grooming.

Alot of this….

In our limited Bunny body speak we think they are both looking for a groom but noone has given in yet.

Best thing is no fighting and sharing Shuggs food.

We give them a few hours a day with each other and hope to see more progress.

Today has been eventful for or little buns…

They shared Shuggy’s food, she groomed him on his head twice for a few minutes each and now this..

They are also going up and down the stairs together.. a few binkies too.

Shuggy has been “menacing” her for a hour today.. he is being a pill.

Wow, this is great progress! Looks like you’re going to have a bonded pair in no time.

It’s looking really healthy with little aggression. If Cinny can deal with the menacing and Shug drops it, you can extend out the length of time they’re together and move straight into cementing.  Have you tried them in a more neutral space?

Shuggy is really free range and the only neutral space is on the extra bed and the meetings there are worse than when we leave them on the first floor. Right now we just take a link out of Cinny’s pen and let them roam. Shug will not go on the hardwood and she will so she has a way to get away. She will run away and then head but him if she gets to annoyed. Mostly it is just them following each other around and chewing on the baseboard when we leave them on there own. Shuggy will only “menace” for a little while until he gets tired of it. It is usually followed by her grooming him, so we let them work on it themselves.
