I’m a little bit worried as today I checked Rain’s litterbox and found a whole piled of sticky, clumpy unformed poops, mixed with some cecals. Last night I did see some tiny poos so I gave her lots of hay and fresh veggies to help. Does anyone have any ideas why this could be happening? I did feed her some tidbits of watermelon, which I made sure didn’t have any seeds before feeding to her. Maybe that particular fruit isn’t suiting her stomach? She usually is fine with everything new given to her, even when it’s something she’s not supposed to eat.  Is there anything else I should be doing to help?

I would say stay away from watermelon for now, and see if her poop normalizes in the next couple hours. If not, see if there is change in her appetite and/or posturing.

Does she currently seem gassy or bloated?

When she was lounging today, or atleast I think it was lounging as she was stretched out and everything, she was tooth chattering kind of loudly. Usually I only see her mouth move and am not able to hear it, but today it was loud, so she might be gassy or bloated. She still did her usually running around and binkying and getting excited for treats. I tried to get her to run around more today to get her hungrier so she could eat. I’m keeping her in her cage for a couple hours to see if any changes occur.

Update: Yep, I’m having to force feed her hay and veggies now. She won’t touch them unless I put them in her hidey house, which she doesn’t want to come out of. Should I get her gas drops? Also, how long do infant gas drops stay good for?

Infant gas drops are pretty good for a while I believe. Yes, give her infant gas drops. Sending healing vibes!

Has she been shedding and have you been grooming her?

Infant gas drops are good for a long time. I’d give her 0.5-1 ml per hour for 3 hours. By then it should’ve helped, but you can keep giving 0.5 ml every 2 hours for a while longer.

She finished her molt, but I still comb her fur everyday in case. I just gave her a dose, hopefully it will work. ( I think she enjoyed those drops too much) She was munching on some hay when I came back from the pharmacy, so that’s a good sign. I’m not sure what the cause of this is though. I remember now that she’s actually eat watermelon before but it was a while back. Thank you both for the help!

Phew it’s working. Should I keep giving her doses for the rest of the day?

It should be fine if she’s recovered. Simethicone works by making gas bubbles combine to create large bubbles which can better move through the tract (or vice versa; I forget which one). Additional doses are not harmful, but won’t amount to anything if the gas has passed!

Hi guys,I have some concerning news. Today the whole day Rain was eating and pooping well. Then suddenly tonight she started having teeeeny tiny light colored poops all over the place. Very very small. I’m not sure why though, I didn’t feed anything besides hay veggies and some pellets. I gave her Simethicone the first time today right before bed just incase. Does anyone know why these sudden poop changes might be happening???

I would go to your rabbit vet to assess. She shouldn’t need simethicone so frequently if nothing in her diet has changed and no new stressors have presented themselves. Maybe she’s passing some fur or maybe her teeth need to be checked to make sure they’re in tip top condition to eat as much hay as possible?

If you can get a small piece of pineapple, you can feed it to Rain and that can help break down any potential fur.

The main causes in my experience of small poops is:

                              1) less hay
                              2) stress (from teeth in Wick’s case)
                              3) gas
                              4) approaching a furry poop exiting

… There is some natural variation sometimes, but if it stays for more than half a day, I’d say a vet visit may be worth it. Can you give a run down on any changes? Maybe a different brand of hay, vegetable, a new environment, new person visiting and interacting with her…

The most recent diet changes, which was a month ago and has never caused issues, was giving her spring mix/baby sweet leaf mix instead of just lettuce. I introduced that slowly of course. Yesterday someone new did come to the house but did not interact with her.

It’s been three days of weird poos and even with gas drops Rain doesn’t seem to be getting better. She’s still eating her veggies and pellets but not her hay. And she won’t accept gas drops at all any more, even with me squirting some on her vegetables. I had to resort to force feeding and squirting drops on her fur so she’l have to lick it up when she’s grooming herself. I’m also not sure if I’m overreacting but it looks like she’s losing a little bit of weight too, her spine doesn’t feel as padded as it did before, but instead feels sharper. I’m going to go ahead and call her vet then because it seems there may be an issue.

Sorry your bun is not doing well. I would definitely get her to a vet especially now she’s not eating any hay and has malformed poops. Leaving it any long could lead to statis. Once you’ve been vets you’ll feel better when you can get some answers. Then get him back on a good balanced diet with lots of hay.
I’ve been through a lot over the years with my bun, soft poops and statis. In the end I’ve had to completely remove his pellets, he now eats lots of hay he’s been doing great since. But I would definitely get her to vet. Hope it all get sorted soon.

Hoping the vet can figure this out and your girl is back to normal soon!
