Long and long I have struggled to find a way to communicate to Dawn (Aka Sister Stealth, the Bunny Ninja), our Black Otter Netherland Dwarf that she is loved and cuddles are a wonderful thing. But she resists. She’s just not a cuddler, we’ve been telling ourselves. Nonetheless, I’ve persisted. The last few days though, I’ve noticed a thaw in her behavior. The secret? I’ve been slipping her a little piece of dried fruit every morning. She LOVES it.
So last night, while doing my evening cuddles with Clover and watching TV, I noticed that Dawn came out and while not cuddling, sat within 2 inches of my leg, closer than she ever has. And this morning, going through my morning routine, (Uncovering bird, making coffee, giving morning treats to cats and Clover, when i went back in the living room, guess who was waiting in the middle of the floor, and not only sat calmly as I reached down to her, she binkied around my feet!! Well, that was all I needed to see. I went down to my belly at her level, and stuck a piece of fruit in my teeth. She came over, stole the fruit, and sat right in front of me eating it. Then she chinned my glasses, my face, and licked my nose!
I took a risk and reached out to her and she even tolerated a head rub and let me run my finger down her back.
I’m so chuffed I could pop.
