Why does our rabbit cage have a very bad odor even just hours after cleaning it and changing the litter? It smells bad.

That must be some really stinky bunny pee! Take some white vinegar and pour about 1/2 inch in the bottom and let it sit for an hour – that should help…

What kind of litter are you using? Agreed, its likely the pee!

ARe you sure its coming from the cage? Is it possible your bunny peed on the carpet somewhere? It smells in our apt. when our bun decides to potty behind a couch or something.

              Welcome, by the way!

along with allenj1… i’ve had that before when one of the buns overshot the litterbox and hit the carpet behind. i cleaned boxes but didn’t notice and then a day later i was saying, “WTH is that smell?”

some smelly urine tips (article from HRS) http://www.rabbit.org/care/tips99.html

can you give us some more info:

                what kind of litter?

is he using a litterbox that you dump or does he have litter in the bottom of the cage?

does he have blankets or pet beds or anything soft that might have urine on them?

what kind of veggies are in his diet?

                is he neutered?

                    Hello Dkrasnove! Welcome to BinkyBunny

Can you tell us a little bit more about how your cage is set up? As well as what type of litter you are using? Also, could you tell us about your bunny’s diet? My bunnies can get very stinky poops if their diet is off – I have one bunny that is sick right now and her poops *stink*! If you can tell us a little bit more I bet we could help you figure out the source of the problem.

I ditto Moobunnay and am wondering if you have a hutch-type set up with a tray underneath or are you using a litterbox? A vinegar and water solution works really well at eliminating odor like rabbitsmba mentioned.
